There is a topic about "Why is Diamond - DMD so hot?" few days ago. Simple answer: many people likes it (because of any reason)

Huge numbers mean funny?
The max money is same as infinitecoin, but who thinks infinitecoin is funny?

Yeah, this is going to get old realllllly fast.. then the coin will likely die..

Just a marketing gimmick to appeal to the children who think that if they buy some, they are part of an exclusive 'inside joke club' that only the most modern, ironic, and wittiest of us can understand and appreciate

Even the dev is probably somewhat surprised this coin has taken off as much as it has, it was probably meant as more of a joke, turns out there are a lot more zombie drones than he thought.. free money everywhere up in here

No other coin is 'such wow'.  :D

People just want to find the next big thing.
And if enough ppl work with it, it will succeed no matter what the background of the coin is.

Also look at all the other copycats that are online and still are succeeding, why wouldn't doge?
I read earlier because i asked the same thing that the hashing speed of the doge is in the top 10 of all the coins out there.

The numbers have nothing to do with it.

Well the Wow Doge meme itself has started to get super popular again so when the coin came out and was mentioned on Reddit and 4Chan all the meme lovers wanted to get in on the ground floor and become rich. Honestly I don't really see the longevity in Doge (still mining it though) but if there is one thing I learned it is to never underestimate the power of teenagers and what they like. We are talking about people that still laugh at the words "fart" and "penis". If we can make a little coin off of their amusement then I say go for it :)

Next I predict the HalfLife3ConfirmedCoin will be announced.  ::)

Not old at all. It's hilarious. This is the perfect coin for a select market. You just happen to not be in that market. That's ok. I don't like lobster. That doesn't mean lobster is shitty food.

It has a niche. If it's not for you, then, well, it's not for you. Don't buy it.

But if you do want to buy, I have a few thousand that I'll sell to you for around 0.01 BTC each. I don't care if you don't buy. I like my DOGE coins. I have given them value. If you don't share that value, that's fine. Others do.

Not everyone is in every market for every thing.

bitcoin has become to expensive/hard to mine for the little guy, dogecoin is the next big thing that any casual can mine and get faster as well as it has the power of the internet behind it. its approved by reddit and /g/

It's hot because there is demand and a massive driving force. I myself have been buying up as much as I can get my hands on because it seems like a good sustainable coin.

The devs didn't even mine much themselves the first few days. It really is a community driven coin. The community is hilarious, it's got the most active IRC chat I've ever seen for an altcoin, including LTC...

Not even a week in and we have a market cap of around $880,000 for it. I predict that by mid-January you'll see a $4 million market cap and it will be listed on Cryptsy and Bter.

I dont think the name is a good name.

But it price is overvalued now(Considering to its big amount)
