Title: Is worth the investment to add CPU mining in my new GPU rigs?
Post by: fran2k on December 13, 2013, 03:53:15 PM
I´m setting up some new rigs for GPU mining with 280 & 290 GPUs.

I´m considering adding CPU mining to the rigs with some CPUs like i7 3770k or 4770k.

Based on this calculator (http://anty.info/primecoin-calculator/) and this hardware stats (http://anty.info/primecoin-hardware/) I will get 2 chains/day with a 3770k yielding about just 0.1 XPM/day.

This gives a ROI for the CPU of more than one year.

Can anyone verify this data? I thought CPU mining was a better investment.

It was for me but then I may have gotten lucky.  I added an 8 core AMD to my GPU rig to mine Primecoin just a few days before ProtoShares launched.  I solo-mined PTS for a couple days and the entire rig paid for itself in the first 24 hours.  So, you might get lucky or you might spend a year mining XPM to make your money back.

Ok, its clear is very important to start mining the new cpu coins as soon as they are launched and know the right time to sell.

I want to know if that XPM proffitability calculator is accurate.

My point was that "is it worth it" is a bigger question than "is the xpm mining calculator correct".

Anyway, I think that calculator is really low.  I haven't mined XPM in about a week but my i7 2600k was doing more like .8 / day so a newer i7 should perform better.

Ok, thanks.

I´m very bullish on new CPU coins, as most of the new protocol improvements or innovations are mostly going to be CPU mined at begginig.

is xpm the most profitable cpu coin right now? perhaps faster roi if you tried data or one of the others

I would also consider adding in some SSDs and a decent amount of fast RAM in order to be ready for the release of eMunie. You'll need it to be an efficient hatcher.
