Title: Profitable Bit/Altcoin for CPU Mining on Dedicated Server?
Post by: VortexHS on December 14, 2013, 09:38:58 AM
I own a dedicated server hosting company and thought I may be able to make some extra profit using one of my unused servers.
What would be most profitable for an E3-1270v2 server to mine? And what about i7-2600?
Do you recommend a mining pool? If so, which one?

Please include statistics to back up your statement if possible! Thanks.

Hi, CPU mining is not profitable, hash rate/W is really low comparing to GPU / ASIC. You can check it here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison#Intel (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison#Intel)

There are some CPU-only coins that you may want to check out, Primecoin is the largest of them.

It's not profitable for Bitcoin, but it is profitable for many altcoins.

This I was worry as well, but now I just mine only when the coin is profitable and converting to Bitcoin. So this is not issue if you dont hold the mined coins
