Title: one wallet for multiple coins?
Post by: silvermetal on December 14, 2013, 07:32:12 PM
I am relatively new in the cryptocoin world and invested in some alt coins.
At the moment I am installing a wallet on my laptop for every individual coin.

I was wondering whether there could be one wallet installed for multiple coins, so that I don't have to synchronize every wallet every day.
For my safety I don't like to leave the coins on different exchange sites.

Thank you in advance for your answers, suggestions and help  :)

Do all the coins go into the same wallet or are they kept separate?

Hey guys,
Every coin has a different QT wallet, which you download from their official webpage/thread.
Each of them has different address for sending/receiving.
Each of them has to be synced because all coins have their own blockchains.

It is however feasible to create a central wallet with a master API sync to a server that keeps certain blocks always updated. The harder part would simply be to securely store the necessary data locally but possible to do for sure. Probably not a bad idea for someone wanting to take on a challenge. This is available now but you basically have to keep your funds in an online wallet rather than stored locally.  The time sink as it stands is having to download the entire block chain for each individual wallet. I'm sure there is a way to develop a client that would essentially mirror this in one location while getting it's update from a master server, expediting the update process.
