Title: % of miners with "free" electricity
Post by: btcgolong on August 15, 2011, 05:38:19 AM
Yes, yes I know it's not really "free", but what % of miners are mining without paying for their electricity?

Stand up and be counted. Tell us about your rig(s).

P.S., if your parents are paying for the electricity, it's not "free".

Anyone with serious mining GH capacity is going to get tracked down.
Maybe lots of small fish?

Two rigs running 3 5830s (940-ish mhash), looking to purchase one more card at a bargain price.

I live in an ancient apartment building with inclusive power and over 20 units all on one meter... Nice way to slash the price of rent so far.

You should have made this a survey.

wat.

I wouldn't add any more rigs if I were you - even if it's a 200amp service, that's an average of 10 amps per apartment - ie, good for one small sized breaker. If something in that place catches fire and they gotta spring to have it rewired, there goes your free ride.

So take it easy on that shit.

I have 200 amps to my house.  I can't imagine they'd put 20 units on just 200 amps.

That was my point - when we rewired our house, we had two options for meters - 100a, or 200a, which required us to have a thicker cable drawn across the street to the house. Everything through one meter probably means the place is a few big space heaters from burning down.

I'm not an electrician though, I just play one on the internet.

I'm sure they have higher amperage options for multi-family developments though.

MDU's have different meters/service feeds vs. single-family dwellings.

Cheers,

Indeed. Though I think some people get understandably jealous over those who get free power and want them to stop taking advantage  ;D

I pay for my electricity but for 6 months per year I have to use electricity anyway to heat the place. Mining rigs will replace baseboard heater on the first floor.
