Thinking about pointing a miner for a period at friends' and relatives' Bitcoin addresses as a Christmas gift.  Almost none have a Bitcoin wallet and establishing Bitcoin-QT on a machine is likely too time consuming for most.  So, with which online wallet would they most easily establish a Bitcoin address?   Thanks.

KryptoKit was released this week and so far it seems impressive in it's ease of use.

Too bad it requires Chrome.  When I use Chrome, my daily Spybot-S&D always comes up with infections afterwards.

Yes that seems to be a downside for some, here's hoping they release a version for FireFox because I love the concept.

I would never use a browser extension as a wallet, or actually keeping my coins on *any* website.

Personally I use the electrum client, its been fantastic to date, open source, doesn't need the blockchain downloading, and doesn't rely on trusting a website operator. We've all seen how many coins have disappeared recently by people trusting "secure online wallets" to hold their coins. Don't do it.

Could not agree more. Electrum/multibit are fine clients to use if you don't want to try and download and synchronize with the whole blockchain and they do have options to encrypt your private keys. If you really want to use an online wallet, I would suggest only for small online transactions and keep your large stash on an encrypted cold storage device.

I read what you said but it seems to me that qt is simple.  The only problem is the time it takes to download but I think you can minimize it so the friend can do whatever they want while it's loading.  Other than that it's easy to use, I think at least.

If you want to operate small amounts of cash, I think the best choose will be blockchain. It's simple and relatively fast :)

Its not "simple". For many people it takes days to download the blockchain, and that is only going to increase in the future.

Sure, if you need the functionality of qt, go through the pain. If you don't, just use electrum. Why download the blockchain if you don't have any use for it?

I'd say electrum. You download it, it gives you a passphrase you have to write/down remember, and you're good to go! No blockchain needs to be downloaded.

No a good wallet shouldn't be complicated. But it depends what you mean by complicated. waiting 3 days for the blockchain to sync before you can use bitcoin-qt definitely counts as complicated to me, not to mention the various "corrupted database" issues that crop up with bad downloads.

never had anything corrupted. and waiting for download to finish is not complicated you just need to wait for it...if downloading is complicated internet should be aswell.

No, waiting for download to complete isn't "complicated" - unless your Internet goes down in the 3 days it takes to actually download it - and you like waiting 3 days to get a bit of software running. And you won't mind when next year it is 7 days not 3 days.

Don't forget the original title of the thread - "Simplest, easiest, wallet" - electrum installs and runs in 2-3 minutes. Which is "simpler and easier"? The OP already said "establishing Bitcoin-QT on a machine is likely too time consuming for most" ...... yet you keep advising on something he already says he doesn't want.

Its going to be a nightmare with the 1,200+ new TLDs coming out. People can snap up blockchain.web or whatever and use that as a phishing site. Gonna suck a lot of people in.

The simplest easiest one is still to come out next year or later  ;D  For now the options listed above.

Not sure what you mean. The new gTLDs are coming online every week. IDNs first, but then ASCII TLDs early in 2014

I agree the new TLDs are completely unnecessary. But it gives ICANN a "reason for being" .....
