If you're a watch lover you want to own a Marathon as a part of your collection. I have a couple of them and they're great. They include cool features like radioactive tritium embedded in the hands and dials. They have been making them for the US and Canadian military for a long time. They are a good starter watch for a collector because of the price and quality. I've been collecting watches for about 30 years and the one that I wear the most is my omega speedmaster professional 007.

My favourite is the Seiko Astron (http://www.seiko-astron.com), solar plus GPS time syncing, so never have to replace the battery or set the time.  It is a really nice watch if you like large dials.  Not cheap though, the titanium version (SAST003) goes for around US$2000.

Does GPS sync the date as well?

People still wear watches?  8) I don't think I've worn a watch since I owned a mobile.

To me, it's like men's jewelry that does something more than just hang there. I like automatics because of their history and precision considering they are fully mechanical. Also because my watch will still work when the EMPs drop. lol

Wow, all of those watches are ugly.

where are the rolex's, breitling's AP's, Hublot's, Corum's ect.

Put some nice watches up and I'd be interested in buying some!

Well, having no watch makes you have no style, not that a cheap timex will give you style but lets be serious here, how many times have you been out with friends, cruising around town in the phantom or bentley watchleess, I for one never have and I LOOOOVE my collection.

I don't want something that hangs that low. I'm not looking to trip when I walk down the street. ;)

Omega displays middle class and style. Patek Philippe is an ugly display of wealth.

Nice!

This was my great grandfathers watch. The story I was told was my great grandmother bought it for him in the 1930s. After he returned from the First World War he refused to buy himself anything extravagant. Instead he spent every penny building their house and providing for them and their children. It's been cleaned by a jeweler every 5 years for 82 years and works flawlessly. Four generations of men in my family have worn this for at least 15 years each. My son will be wearing it soon.

Can it tell the time? Where are the hands? lol. Would look better without the Skyfall logo and all the other writing.

lol The writing kind of makes it what it is - a James Bond watch.

This is what really matters, when it tells a story, brings back memories. I love old cars, watches, jewelry.
I wouldn't change that old watch for any other.

Agreed, I hope none of my primogeniture ever decides they like money more than history. I'd like this watch to be in my family forever.

This would be too much for me, If my watch ever costed more than my car I'd feel awkward wearing it. I'd just be too worried someone might steal it or something and also feel a bit like a snob.
I'm currently using something like this: http://yesap.com/498-693-thickbox/zegarek-casio-edifice-efa-132pb-1av.jpg Very reliable, cost <$200.

It's only being a snob if someone else knows the value of what you're wearing and you are wearing it for show.

There are a lot of great watches that don't cost much. I own several of these watches made for the US and Canadian military: http://www.marathonwatch.com/search/category/29

Yes they are expensive for the original purchaser but an Omega will last for generations, a plastic Casio won't. Cheap watches definitely have a purpose. You don't want to wear a pricy watch to garden or work on the car.

I like the look of this watch:

http://www.ablogtowatch.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Breva-Genie-02-Altimeter-watch.jpg

It is a mechanical watch with a mechanical altimeter.  I like analogue watches which do more than just tell the time.  But don't think that it is worth the price tag of $132,000  :o

More info: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/breva-genie-02-terra-watch-first-ever-mechanical-altimeter/

That's sweet! Just wait till Bitcoin conquers the suckers masses and we'll be able to buy two of them with one Bitcoin.
