This is really great. All those worthless forks like Xicoin, 0coin, StupidCoin, GetMeRichCoin, FredCoin,... are pulling mining power out of bitcoin, so that the remaining miners get more. We should give a big thank you to all those forkers and their foolish flollowers.

Hey I'm a big fan of StupidCoin! Don't knock it!

I'm glad it seems to be leveling off finally.  I was worried it would keep going up until it hit 5 million.  As for being excited about an extra 5%... I'd be more excited if the price of bitcoins continues its current trajectory.

Agreed.

Yea, more coins for me! I would like to thank the bitcoin price drop for making this difficulty decrease possible!  ;D

With some people mining IXCoins and others mining IOCoins its going to be interesting to see what path Bitcoin difficulty takes over the next few months at least..

Nice one. I am a big fun of bitcoin forks now. Well done. We need more of those forks now.   ;D

You think? the 5% decrease seems to have gotten all the miners flooding back. Next difficulty increase is currently projected at 10% or more...

Maybe there's something to this "chain hopping" thing... All miners should move to the chain that recently had the biggest difficulty decrease, so next month it's namecoin, then ixcoin, next back to Bitcoin again... ;D

I think ButtCoin has a better chance of success than StupidCoin.  It's all about branding.

Gabicoin will be the best, no doubt about that

Jumping miners created a real problem for Namecoin at the moment, they mined out previous set in 3 days when difficulty was low. After correction, network hash rate dropped 10 times leaving network with mining rate of 83 minutes per block, and the next correction projected (http://dot-bit.org/tools/nextDifficulty.php) to happen in late November. When or if bitcoin becomes relatively weak to sum of alternative networks, then I think Gavin would have to change protocol so it will adjust difficulty much more frequent. I think we will see jump in bitcoin network hash rate right after next difficulty correction, and then decline after correction after the next.

You could be very right. The last decrease was in April, bitcoin value was below $1. The decrease was followed by a 3 month rally up to $30.

variance, I noticed recently deepbit had a block with only 630 hashes.... then again a little while ago they had a block with 13 million

with 1910 blocks to go, we're looking at a 0.077% decrease according to bitcoincharts.

This explains why the pool I mine at has had a roughly 120% increase in hash rate since I checked 24 hours ago. :/  Free loaders are all back I guess.  >:(

I think i0coin retargets after 2016 blocks or after two weeks without retargeting. They should put that into namecoin.

Unlikely in extremis.
