Title: Newbie question - Is Bitcoin traded 24X7 (on exchanges)
Post by: hanman on December 17, 2013, 09:36:44 PM
Is there a close price on the Bitcoin or it is just continuous traded and end of the day (GMT) becomes the close price. Thanks for any info.

The close price depends on the time interval you are looking at.  If you are looking at a 15 minute chart, then the close prices is the price every 15 minutes.  Just like a real currency exchange (Forex market), bitcoin trades around the clock.

There is no close price because most crypto-currency exchanges (and casinos!) never close :)

There is no need to close since everything is run by computer. Close prices are related to a time when trading was tied to the real world and human/broker operating hours.

It makes sense that there would not be a "end of day" close price for bitcoin.

Funny though, this site shows "Close price" for bitcoin without much specifics.

I imagine that it is just trying to use some finance lingo, since the other view is OHLC (Open-high-close-low) which seems to be using some arbitrary unit to represent a day.
