Post by: aksen on May 12, 2018, 02:37:18 AM
Hypothetical question: A member reports some major abuse going on the forum by another member and starts receiving threats on his personal contact details. Will the forum protect the first member in this case ?

Most probably NO, We are responsible for our own action, for our own security. when doing something for the sake of justice you need to cover up yourself because those people you report will be against you at any time. you need to protect yourself at all time.

From personal experience, no.

Nor would I expect them to.

Don't use your personal contact details just use some dummy contact details for your transactions. It's already outside of the forum so they can no longer prevent that from happening ;).

With my personal experience I have never seen the admins intervene in such matters, what I mostly see is some DT members helping their fellow members by either fixing their problems or tagging them for others to know what he/she have done. Admins are too busy to involve themselves on other's personal matters especially the ones that they are not specifically involve in.

When forum do not ask for personal details, then how another member get your personal details?
one basic question for you.
If you got threatening call do you go to service provider or law authority?

This is a place in where you must move carefully. If you give your personal data to another member and then it goes wrong, that's your mistake only. Consider how many people move in here: thousands. So it will be impossible for the "authority" to care everyone.
Nevertheless, there are many topics related to how to be safe, either here or in any place on the internet. To never share your personal data with unknown ones is one of the golden rules.

How could the forum admins protect you from this kind of harassment?
You said you would be receiving threats on your personal contact details, not here on the forum.

Depending on the level of those threats you should inform the ones responsible for the way you are reeving them (email provider, fb, twitter, chat app etc) or go next level and report it to the authorities. Not that is going to solve anything.  :D
Besides, 99% of those that are threatening people here are keyboard warriors.

Absolutely, if they somehow have obtained your personal contact details as well as other information the Forum Admins won't have in any way help you as the person threatening you can contact you outside of the forum. If you ever put yourself in this kind of situation you must ask help from lawyers or the police authority by now, because even if they have banned that member nothing can stop them from threatening you.

In that scenario, I do believe that police would be more effective that any help one might receive from forum members.

So, if someone starts attacking someone, sending threats, etc... on their private number, it's probably time to call the police if they don't stop.

Sharing personal details will not let you lighten with the anonymous status. If you needed this then you should not have the personal details on the personal details so wide open and clear to them.

Even ICO airdrops recent days takes the ICO airdrops details. These informations are really work for them.
So no who is is first and last all would be considered as a same person in forum rules.

;D And this is funny because we know that the latter choice is not available. There are no legal remedy in this forum, the highest that exist is the red tag and that to me isn't legal but hard punishment which could either be correct to the offense or merely punishing an innocent member. It can be legal where convincing evidences are proven beyond reasonable doubt in a constituted panel or a court.

Therefore, someone should ensure he/she does what is good and have a personal protection of themselves.

Of course no , This forum will not protect you from any threats that you are receiving. The only person who can protect us here in this forum is us. We can avoid sending private information specially those ICO who required you to send your private info in to their system. Just stay who we are here.

Forum has nothing to do with keeping you safe. We are here in bitcoin because of our own reasons why we're here. Bitcointalk is a place for learning bitcoin, cryptocurrency and blockchain and much more. If your getting threats from someone else is your own fault. You should be careful with your personal contact details though to avoid getting threats.

How can you expect someone from the forum to protect you from these personal threats whey they are total strangers?  Anonymity is essential in this forum and I can't see how you can be threatened personally by other members unless you give personal information in your profile.

Besides, 99% of those that are threatening people here are keyboard warriors.

Just think of these, they are all threat on the cyberspace. I hardly think that anyone could hurt you personally.
