Title: Mining Setup
Post by: Callisto369 on December 18, 2013, 02:07:30 AM
I am looking to build a milk crate rig with 4 x Radeon 7950's if I can find them. Is it worth it to still go after alt coins to play the market and convert to LTC/BTC or am I wasting time/money ?

I am getting about 330kh/s with my 7870 but finding that I am such a small fish in every mining pool that I just don't get enough shares. I am also willing to buy 2BTC outright if the price goes anywhere below $600. My plan is to convert .75 BTC back to LTC and then back to a whole bunch of different alt coins and watch the markets. I will hold steady on the other 1.25 BTC and hopefully build it back to 2BTC with mining.

My guess is about $1500 to $2000 for the rig and maybe $1300 for 2 BTC if the market gets there by chance. $3000 to $3500 won't destroy me if everything goes belly up but I missed the last ride because I knew about bitcoin at $30 and did nothing about it. I'm willing to take a bit of a risk here to not be left in the cold again.

I think there is a huge rise and demand in dogecoins right now, if you mine them you may profit a huge amount given a few weeks.

I would go for it, there is still profit to be made! I will get another GPU with the mail tomorrow.

I'm not that green... it is no better or worse than most other alt currencies IMO. Telling someone to mine any specific alt is a complete guess at best. I currently hold SXC, CSC, UNI, GLD, SBC, and WDC. I won't be buying into the Dogecoin hype. Just a personal choice. I think it's the fact that I hate that DOGE meme thing. Very annoying. I plan to ride the alt wave until BTC changes itself and adopts all the characteristics that make other alts seem viable. Hopefully I can see that coming and dump everything I mined into LTC and BTC. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I think your idea of having a diverse portfolio of coins is a good one.

I'm rotating my cards around a number of currencies I believe in, then keeping half and converting half to BTC. If Crypto has a future, then at least I'll be holding multiple coins. It's a bit like a lottery I suppose, for tech geeks. On the other hand, all the coin networks need miners to do the work, so if you believe in Crypto Currency and intend to use it to pay for things, then build a rig and contribute some hashes. :)

I'm currently mining Dogecoins with a single GTX 550 Ti. I'm jealous.  ;D
