Based on the i0guild pool speed during the test, lots of people did indeed lose money. :P

If he's renting something and doesn't even bother to set up failover so he at least mines bitcoins in the meantime, there's not much justification to feel bad for him...

Semi-agree with you. BUT, If he is renting I doubt he has access to the machines to change logins. If he told the 'landlords' to mine to his i0Guild account and he even had a failover setup, i0Guild is accepting shares, so it won't hit the failover.

i0coin is not a scam.   I had been mining and actually profiting when the difficulty level was low.  Though at current value I won't be mining at all

Even now with the high difficulty, it isn't a scam, just an unprofitable or zero profit coin.  Unless it comes with Bitcoin merged mining, I won't mind it anymore.  But I may buy some just for fun with the bitcoins mined.

I0coin is merge mined at mmpool.bitparking.com (as well as ixcoin, namecoin and devcoin).

It is also not a no-profit coin, in the right hands. Obviously you are not going to get a good profit selling altcoins at bitcoin-exchanges whose customers are mostly people looking to get rid of altcoins; what you need if you want to get the best prices for your altcoins are markets catering to people (such as players of various games) who actually want some specific type of altcoin for some specific purpose. (Such as for some quest in some game, or to buy some special equipment only sold by a race class or nation that only accepts that type of coin... Best of course is to either create your own such, or similar, specialised market(s).
