Title: MPP now accepts bitcoin donations
Post by: merockstar on December 18, 2013, 04:52:04 PM
I've been an mpp supporter for quite some time. They're the marijuana lobby that has, in my opinon, helped to bring about the recent victories in the field of marijuana legalization.

Several weeks ago I sent them an e-mail suggest they accept donations in bitcoin, and to my astonishment, they did it, and wrote back to thank me for pointing this out to them!

You should all go show them some love. If you have the extra coin.

merockstar it’s nice to hear that people exist who are not working for money only but In fact they wish to work for society not for money. The problem is that many people claim to be the fund raisers for a good cause but after they attain donations they either do corruption by hiding some big donation or charge excessive administration cost. So your reliability?

It's not me. It's Marijuana Policy Project.

They're divided into two groups, a political lobby, and a non-profit dedicated to educating the public.

They do most of their work on the state level in the United States.

They spearheaded the successful initiative to legalize in Colorado    http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/out-of-state-money-funded-push-to-pass-amendment-64-and-legalize-marijuana-in-colorado

They managed to get a dude to appear on The Today Show  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gga7IZxBwbA

And they seem to have a constantly evolving, comprehensive enough for me at least, plan in place to further legalization, which you can read about at www.mpp.org

I'm not mpp. I'm just someone who donates to them occasionally.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marijuana_Policy_Project

If you're saying MPP might not be the group they appear to be, I'd like to know more.

Wow just  like one month ago I was planning on contacting MPP and providing them with some slides and documents on why they should accept bitcoin and the benefits of doing so.  Then I got lazy and forgot about it (no pun intended).

Always weird when you think about something random like that about a random organization and then a few weeks later it actually happens haha.  Anyways, that's great news. Good for them!

It's especially great for smaller transactions. A lot of younger people who may not have access to credit cards or bank accounts could very well be interested in still donating something less than $5 in which case bitcoin is a great option if not the best option.

If marijuana is legalized any where in the states it's simply because the gvt feels they want to try it out for awhile, not because of some pathetic lobby group.

I can vouch for MPP.  They have been around for almost 20 years now and are by far the largest pro marijuana legalization lobbying group in America. I've been a donating member with them for about 17 years now and am constantly amazed with the huge role they have had in getting medical marijuana legalized in 18 states in america during that time period and now recreationally legal in 2 states with about 9-10 other states in position to do the same in the next 1-4 years.   Obviously they arent the sole reason this trend has been happening but a lot of these state laws that have passed MPP had a large role in getting the law promoted if not outright helping draft the law themselves.  In addition the numberous magazine, tv, radio, billboard ads and campaigns they have run across america.

They are legit and not only legit but very well ran and have actually delivered quite well on their goals especially considering how anti marijuana politicians and local/federal governments were (and still can be) just 20 years ago when MPP was first founded.

In nearly every state that has legalized medical marijuana and the two states that have legalized recreational marijuana MPP played a very large role in collecting signatures, advertising the bill to voters, and in a lot of causes flat out drafting the bill itself.   So it would be very wrong to say MPP hasn't had any impact on getting local and or federal politicans to listen and or helping laws get on the ballots and educating voters on the issue.

Hate pot heads

what's a pot head though. Is it someone who smokes way too much pot and doesn't do anything with their life, the same as an alcoholic with a heavy drinking problem?  Or is it the majority of marijuana users who live normal responsible lives just like most people who drink live normal lives.

I think it's a bit sad that in 2013 there is still so much prejudice against anyone who uses pot at all. Meanwhile it's that time of year where companies are throwing christmas parties with unlimited free booze and that's deemed acceptable and normal.

Not trying to be rude or stir things up, just pointing out some realities of the situation in regards to marijuana usage and how silly some peoples views are in regards to that.

so in fairness, what did your post about hating pot heads have to do with this thread ?    1) it's a great thing to see another company or organization adopt bitcoin  2) although MPP is most certainly full of workers who smoke pot they do A LOT of work and are very successful at accomplishing their goals.

I hate lots of things.

That doesn't mean they should be illegal.
Exactly the point, especially that pot used to be legal, but then some US politicians decided that it shouldn't be and Europe soon followed.
Screw them and their stupid law.

A pot head to me, is someone making it his business to legalize marijuana.

Well, he could  be in it for the money, but that would make me question his motives :)

Do you have any actual arguments for why marijuana legalization shouldn't happen? Or are you trolling?

CPP is being planned to go next door to CGLPP -- Can't Get Laid Policy Project

Whatever you do, don't tell him about the fact that our brains have naturally occurring cannabinoids. He'll end up hating himself. :P

Not trying to be rude or stir things up, just pointing out some realities of the situation in regards to marijuana usage and how silly some peoples views are in regards to that.

This discussion was bound to go in this direction eventually. Trolls you know? Do you want to know what most people say when asked, "How much alcohol does someone need to drink to become an alcoholic?" Everyone emphatically answers, "More than me." This is the same mind frame that non-smokers have. If you smoke more than me then you must be a pot head.

It is a stupid mindset. Alcohol isn't for everyone. Pot isn't for everyone. Porn isn't for everyone. People must stop letting their own weakness in body and thought affect their opinions on public policy.

I like what MPP does in two major ways: 1. Reforming the laws reduces the number of non-violent offenders behind bars. 2. Safe access both medically and recreationally is no brainer in a civilized society. I'm sending them some coin.

was thinking "man, wouldn't it suck if they listened to my suggestion, then the only BTC donation they got was my occasional ten or twenty dollars?"
