Title: Welcome Message for Newbie
Post by: r-jay on May 12, 2018, 08:51:14 PM
I do love to suggest also if someone not yet suggest this thing:

Like on Reddit or Gmail, after creating an account an auto mail will be coming to your inbox as welcoming letter and list of things to do when you made your account and you log-in with it.

Welcome!!

IIRC, "hilariousandco (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=164822)" made a similar suggestion (I couldn't find the exact post [to link it as reference]) and I think, it's useful enough (to be implemented).

Yes, it's a good idea to implement this, if possible. And maybe it will be a result, that new users have a look to the basics.

As a newbie, i think it's necessary to have a message with some basic rules about how to post, how to interact with other members.

Wow, this is really a good suggestion but I think it will never be implemented in the forum since I can't see the ongoing plan. Well if this will be implemented I am sure that the number of newbies who's asking "common questions" will decrease.

The sticky is not enough, I see lots of lazy newcomers waiting for us to get spoodfeed.

The forum does not do email validation.  :/

Even as a PM the idea would do its job, IMO.

I am also agreed, definitely it is a really good idea and it should be followed by the newbies.

This idea is also pretty good! when the newbie is confused after creating an account and surfing the forum, he is instantly addressed to a thread that is useful to newbies, such as a thread of "some forum rules". when the newbie already understands the rules of the forum, it will leave what is prohibited by the forum. This step is also great for minimizing spammers who enter the forum. And also respect the newbie who just joined here. I agree with your proposal!

it is a great help for us newbies to have one like to have a basic knowledge how it works and know the necessary thing to do before clicking on any section of the forum...

Thanks for making this forum to welcome for newbies.
Seems it would be a great start for a newbie like me.

Keep up! 👍

Yes, one is badly needed. Theymos agreed to one being implemented here. I'll contact him again about it soon.

Not only lazy newcomers , new comer who want to have money the first moment they have entered here... it's just irritating to see newbie post with "how much can I earn within a week" thing... so I think this welcome message would be a great idea... I hope someone with enough knowledge will help the admins...

Then, I think it would also be great if it will be added to the new forum.

Side thought while typing this, for new accounts. Let's put a link in directing to the forum rules. With a twist, you know how you have to accept the terms of use on everything these days let's add that in. Not at the bottom like suckers but somewhere in the middle so that people have to actually read it.

Just to be sure it gets through to everyone we would need it to be translated for all local boards.

This was an additional thought I had when I suggested sending out a mass message blast explaining Merit.

So I figured that information should go in a welcome message, for any new account.

Can the mods view the list of newly registered users? If so a simple bot can be coded to blast out messages to the new members till theymos gets the time to implement this officially. Just my 2 cents.

Who's going to spam users with the bot?

No.

Hmm! well, that's too bad then.

I dunno, Could have been one of the bot accounts, who's entire purpose would have been to send out the messages. But "Who" doesn't even matter now, as there is no way to list the newly registered users.
