The cryptocurrency markets are set to end the second week of May on a low note.

The total market capitalization for all cryptocurrencies fell below $400 billion for the first time since April 26 on Friday, and has dropped 15.97 percent week-on-week. As of writing, the combined market value stands at $385 billion and could see a further decline as indicated by a head-and-shoulders breakdown pattern on the price charts.

Looking at notable individual cryptocurrencies, bitcoin (BTC) has depreciated by 12 percent week-on-week and has outperformed its closer rivals. For instance, ethereum (ETH) and EOS have dropped 15 percent each and Ripple (XRP) has declined by 34 percent.

Bitcoin's dominance rate, which represents its percentage of the total market capitalization, moved above 38 percent for the first time since late April. This likely indicates that money is possibly being rotated back into bitcoin from alternative cryptocurrencies, so BTC's relatively good performance this week is not surprising.

No doubt that BTC is headed back downward, but I don't believe it will drop below $6k... it will be a great buying opportunity if it does.

Though for previous couple of weeks the prices of Bitcoin fell a little, but it is now gaining back its position. The price is again rising high. It feels great to see that bitcoin has outperformed all other coins in the market.  ::) ::)

Big Cryptos drop this week based on many reasons but we have to think it’s like stock market and also price may vary and fluctuate so it is not a matter of panic but the bitcoin price still the top position in the market because people are investing money on it and it profitable and limitless trading facilities encourage their customers.BTCBTC

This is very natural on the part of cryptocurrencies that thier price fluctuates. So it is obvious that the price can go down and I think ther is nothing to panic on this. It has just went down recently and soon will start increasing. That is this volatile currencies are all about. So, stop worrying and stay positive. ??? ???

It worries me that the value of bitcoin is still falling.
Because the whole market doesn't have new money coming in.

Yes, from last few days market is becoming bearish. I think it is going in due to some negative news of recent time. I hope this is for short time and will back again.

It is not a big deal for the investment market. Ups and downs are the law of the nature. There is no common rule of thumb that price will always increase and it will not decrease. In general sense due to several factors price can be dropped down and it can rise up also. The price has lowered this week and possibly it can go lower in this month but it will rise up very soon. Since the demand of the bitcoin is increasing but the supply is limited so the price will rise up again. So keep calm and invest.

Maybe it's a big dropped in this week, but did you know price falling in January 2018, that's only called Big Dropped, from $8xxB to $4xxB to $2xxB, so I don't care anymore because I'm not a trader, I'm holding cryptocurrency for future and believed that it's must become popular soon, so price correction is normal, don't always panic

yeah i do think bitcoin already solid in 8k - 9 k. market growing bit by bit and i do think bch is really good right now.
Yes and soon altcoins will rising too. This happen like many times. when bitcoin increasing altcoin will drop and vice versa.

I do hope that Consensus 2018 which is held right now will positively influence the market and soon we will see bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies grow in price.

It is only natural that BTC and other cryptocurrency will have a downward trend this coming weeks but it will only be the correction that we are expecting since the pump in the last two weeks of April and the first week of May in which BTC came around 9.7k USD. This also seems to be the case to other crypto. However do not expect a great dip because they ate just circulating the supply that is based on the current demand on the market.

bitcoin might has depreciated by 12 percent week-on-week and has outperformed its closer rivals. but that won't stay that way buddy, kind will rise soon. ethereum is also facing a lilbit of bad time, which is sad, but they will become stable again.

That may be but I would have my hopes high for the end of Consensus 2018, things usually pick up after this event.

BTC might test 6k before coming back up/falling even more. I have seen people saying that bullmarket won't start before BTC has fallen to 3k. The truth is that no one really knows what is coming. I hope that 8k becomes the new 6k and that cryptomarket starts going up again or finds a stable ground.

The volatility is not new to the cryptos and it doesn't look like big drops too because the price swing of cryptos are getting broader so it becomes the natural characteristics of the crypto currencies.So don't speculate them too mch guys it will just move according to its market condition.

I think Consensus will not impact much the price of BTC this year. There is a risk that price will go downward after that event. Reason is that there is an artificial hype based on expectations of BTC price surge according to the previous years pattern.

This recent drop was very disappointing and discouraging, because I and many other forum members really believed this time everything was different and that bitcoin was gradually moving to surpassing the $10k barrier. And then we see it below $9k again, as if no positive signs were around. A lot of people are writing about Consensus 2018. The news in Russian are saying it indeed has positive impact on btc, pushing it forward. But I bet such things can't be game-changing anyway.

Historically, after the consensus conference that is currently going on in the united states of america, market has grown well, the positive indicators are that this time the number of participants in the conference is the most ever and also people paid for expensive tickets to attend this conference, i think history will repeat itself and we will see huge volume growth in the market in coming weeks.

Not yet the conference consensus has been over bro. There are people invested on the bitcoin and ethereum increased last few days after Korean exchange's regulation on various cryptocurrencies.
Lets all wait for some days and see whether it goes to big or be stable in this level itself for some days and then it is going forward. However end of the year you will get the reward to you wallet mate. I expect to see the 12k USD when this month closing time.

These drops are bound to happen. With the tentative state of cryptos and investors both, being on tenterhooks due to the whimsical and non-committal focus of world regulatory authorities and policy makers.

Yes in this week the market is going downwards. Almost every cryptocurrency rate has fallen down. I will suggest to hold some new coins right now because the market of bitcoin will rise soon after this downwards.

The price drop has little effect on the people I vote for every month. I am a believer in comparison. Believe that the future price of BTC is only temporary and will come back. ;D

In recently bitcoin face some problems but i think it will overcome very quickly. Many countries people are investing in bitcoin.

In fact, it seems to me that the current and unexpected growth trend of bitcoin in terms of dominance is a clear signal that investors are looking for a safe haven in the face of the uncertainty that has characterized the market throughout this year.

However, this is not a positive signal of what is happening in the market, since everything seems to indicate that despite the great efforts that many make to promote the advantages of the underlying technology in cryptocurrencies, in reality investors are only buying them to speculate with them in the very short term, exchanging them for bitcoins as soon as they get the expected profit.

Today bitcoin has rebounded. This is just another market panic. There is no need to worry too much that I think bitcoin will soon return to 10K.
