Title: 2013-12-19 Forbes article on the Oyate Initiave

A new project to use bitcoin as a community is starting up.  A disenfranchised community is going to use bitcoin to improve the lives of it's members.  Sounds like a boon for them and bitcoin.

I wonder if they could set up a Bitcoin Exchange and be exempt from any of the FINCEN or money-laundering laws. Would seem only fair, seeing how they got decimated and pillaged. Time for some payback...

Here's their Coinfunder page with donation addresses:

I like this guys drive and it was only a matter of time before the sovereign nations recognised the opportunities here. They have a huge advantage over Wall St. at this stage if they can capitalise on it.

Quote
He wants to use this independence to sidestep the restrictions on the exchange and transfer of Bitcoin which are currently clogging up the US crypto-economy.

This quote is fundamentally incorrect. The "restrictions on exchange and transfer" is on US dollars side of the transactions NOT the bitcoin side.

Most people do not realised how oppressive the capital controls around digital dollars have become with the rush by the State and Banks to make all financial transactions observable and traceable. Not to mention they have destroyed digital dollar fungibility in the process.

in order of importance:

1.  Bitcoin exchanges
2   Bitcoin banks

i think that they would be successful.  it would be a political nightmare for the gubmint to go into a reservation and try and squash a piddly, little Bitcoin exchange.  the fallout would be enormous and only serve to strengthen Bitcoin even more.

everyone knows how the native americans have been already abused.

The first bitcoin nation? Bring it on, and may it be the first of many.
