Title: I'm giving away Bitcoin with this Christmas Card
Post by: BitPappa on December 19, 2013, 11:20:57 PM
I decided to spread Bitcoin as a Christmas gift. Here's an oversize Christmas card I came up with to give away Bitcoin paper wallets, and help people understand the basics of what I'm giving them (I figure most non-Bitcoiners are stumped when they receive a paper wallet). Hopefully the gift and explanation will stir an interest with a few people who have yet to explore Bitcoin.

EDIT Dec 12, 2013: Here are downloadable files (with the typo "know one knows" fixed):

PDF with full Adobe Illustrator compatibility (editable, uses Ubuntu font):

Here's a ZIP contain gin two PSDs for outside and inside of the card, generated from Illustrator (editable, uses Ubuntu font):

I've also posted a zip-compressed TXT file of just the verbiage here:

I don't suppose that you'd be willing to link a copy of your template, would you?

I really like it. I agree that some pictures on the inside might make it more visually appealing, but it's a nice card nonetheless. I think the cover is perfect!

I think you might have to spend 10 minutes explaining the on-page explanation of Bitcoin to whomever you give that card to. :)

You might get questions and statements such as...

It is Digital what?

What the hell is this computer code looking thing?

Can you spend this at Wal-Mart?

What is this Bibcoin stuff?

Back in my day, we didn't give paper whatchamawhosits for Christmas presents!

Great idea!  I know that tons of my family members would love this, not for the value, but for the excitement of being able to watch its value go up throughout the year (risk-free).  Perfect year to do it, too.

As asked before, any chance of sharing the template?

I really like this idea! I agree with Bittzy78 though -- you will still probably get lots of questions even though you include explanations in the cards.

Thanks for the response and feedback (and finding my typo -- I assume there are more). I've posted a PDF of the card (it's 100% editable with Adobe Illustrator CS5, and can be opened, but not easily edited, in Photoshop):
http://www.print4bitcoin.com/external/bitcoin-xmas-card.pdf

Here's a ZIP with PSDs for outside and inside of the card:
http://www.print4bitcoin.com/external/bitcoin-xmas-card-psd.zip

I've also posted a zip-compressed TXT file of just the verbiage here:
http://www.print4bitcoin.com/external/bitcoin-xmas-card.txt.zip

The PDF uses the free font Ubuntu, and it is set up to print on a 18"x12" sheet (though a slight reduction will make it fit well on an 11x17 sheet).

I tried to explain just enough about Bitcoin as I thought would be relevant to the people receiving it. It certainly doesn't explain the technology, but I hoped it would be enough to make them take the gift seriously, and understand the basics on how to use the paper wallet… And maybe stir curiosity to explore Bitcoin more. I created this rather quickly, I'm sure with more time, it could be better… But I guess that goes for most things.

Please feel free to improve this and post improvements, so others can benefit. As I said, this was done quickly! I didn't do much to adorn it, and I'm sure some things could be worded better (I was disappointed how long it came out to be, as I worry some may not want to read this much). The mention of Coinbase makes it fairly U.S.-centric.

This is one of a kind Christmas gift and all of those people who will received this would be very lucky even though they really don't have any idea what is this for.

One of the best and creative idea to spread the word about Bitcoins. Two thumbs up!

That's a nice idea! Every person that comes in contact with bitcoin makes the price go up. So spread the word! (and bitcoins)  ;)

I added a PSD file for the front and for the back in a ZIP (link below), please share if you come up with a Polish version!

Thanks, fixed that in the downloadable files

Why unhappy face? Try the download! I think it's too late to send you a printed one for Christmas, unless you want to pay the FedEx charges!

I know it's pretty late for most to use this for Christmas, but I will work up a Birthday version too, maybe even print some and offer them for sale. I'm really happy to collaborate, if anyone can figure out ways to improve this.

BitPappa - Excellent thank you very much.

I've just printed off 10 and they look great, very nice additional Christmas gift.

Maybe a good idea to add a donation address as I'm certainly more than willing to contribute for your generosity!

Great, glad to hear it! I'm not looking for donations on this one, the appreciation is payment enough. Besides, we all win if Bitcoin wins! Hopefully this is a grain of sand in the right direciton.
