Would anyone be able to suggest what the going price of a used HD 5830 would be? I am getting one from a friend, but would like to get a second one and wanted to know what sort of price people would sell them for on here.

I estimated around 9 BTC, but I'm not sure whether that's too high/low.

I'd personally say if your paying more then 130 your getting ripped off. The highest I'd probably buy one used would be 110.

I was working on the basis of $130 new => take 30% off for used price => divide by 10 => 9 BTC.
So if you're saying the max you'd pay for a used one is $110 then I guess I wasn't far off.

Only problem is I'm in the UK and everything is slightly more expensive here. That said I found a new HD 5830 for 85GBP, so working on the same principle (30% off), a used unit would be around 60GBP.

Thats true normally but it's been over a month since I've seen a store sell a 5830 so they are becoming increasingly rare. I still think 130 is reasonable for a used one but being frugal I tend to wait for good deals. It's just all a matter of how long your willing to wait.

There's no particular rush so I'm more than willing to wait until a good deal pops up. Thanks :)

around 100-130 USD... i would say that 120usd would be fair even for europe prices

Amazon sells new 5830s on a regular basis still, however they are not usually $130. I usually see them selling on there for $150-$180 and even more depending on the card.

You can get multiple 6870's at 150 (exactly the same card but requires less power). Amazon for the most part is a rip off

I would like to find a 6870 at $150 that is not a rip-off "after MIR price" or out of stock. Really would. If enough vendors have stock, I have made it down to $165 or so by picking a higher priced vendor with a "Price match and then 25% of the difference" deal. $150 is a pretty good sale price, if you can find them. (note, I am speaking of reference, as overclocking on non-reference, AKA ASUS DirectCU, is pretty limited)

Why is the mail in rebate that big of a deal? Newegg has plenty of cards that go down to around 150 with mail in rebate so its not like you can only get one.

Only one/two per household (which I am already at with a few manufacturers :p), lost in the mail, bunch of ridiculous requirements like mailing it off within X days of shipment arrival, and don't forget, the value of your money being "tied up" for X number of weeks while they get around to sending it to you. MIR prices are sort of a scam, it has to be an awesome deal for me to even consider it with the MIR. Also, if you value your time at anything, is $10 worth an hour of your life filling out forms, buying stamps, envelopes, etc, and mailing something?

Plus nowadays they usually send a prepaid card. You can look around the web at the problems people have with them. MIR is designed to create an impulse buy as you rationalize the lower cost but they depend on some significant percent of them never being redeemed.

I avoid them as well and it even puts me off the companies that use them.
