The raffle will occur on time, regardless of how many tickets will be sold.  so far there are 4 entries. (updated 8/25/2011 10:41 PM CST)

Rules + Prize:
entry ticket is 1 BTC

Up to 20 raffle tickets will be sold.  Drawing occurs when the 20th ticket has sold or 1 week from original (this) post, whichever comes first.

I will post the number of tickets available after processing each ticket purchase to keep everyone up to date.

To purchase a ticket, please PM me and I will give you an address to send your 1 BTC to.  When you send the BTC, tell me what your sending address is so I can associate your nickname with the sending address.

I will use your nickname and enter them into third-party draw service provided bu rangom.org

random.org will pick a winner and the results are public.

I will PM the winner for shipping address.  I will not ship outside of US, so if you are not in US, please don't buy a ticket.

The card is a 5830 with the bracket clipped of at the bottom.  you get everything it came with.  if you care about the bracket being clipped off, please don't buy a ticket.
this card was used for a few days until I upgraded to 5850s.

I'd consider entering if you changed your draw method to something more open. Perhaps something similar to bitlotto's method, which can be seen here: http://bitlotto.com/details.html. That way we can all be sure you're not manipulating the results.

I won't be involved in results.  i will submit all entrants to random.org (3rd party) and they pick a winner randomly.

bitlotto seems to be about sending winnings to a bitcoin address (oversimplified overview).  I can't send a 5830 to a bitcoin address... or am I missing your point here?

It would be impossible to prove that you used random.org to select the winner, unfortunately. Because each entry into your lottery costs 1 BTC, then each entry will have a corresponding transaction ID. That's all you need in order to use Bitlotto's method. Just send the card to the sender of the transaction that wins. :)

OK.  How do I know who sent the transaction to me?  I can have several people here claiming that they sent 1 btc from some address to my address once the winning transaction is announced.  How do I solve this?

You'd have the same problem if you used random.org, but thankfully there's a solution. Why don't you give each user a different address to send the BTC to?

I was planning on using a different address for payment for each entrant.

I guess I'm just not really understanding how to run a raffle using the method you are suggesting... spell it out for me please.

I'm just gonna use random.org and so that ppl don't think there's hanky panky, I can video capture my screen when raffle winner is picked by random.org and post it on youtube.  does this satisfy you?

What's the purpose of the clipped grill, anyway?

I was trying to fit it into an 8 year old dell system and i had to clip the bottom off to make it fit into the case.  ended up replacing all my 5830s with 5850s, so don't need this card anymore.

i  bet you would have sold more without the 20 coin limit.. people will wait until you get like 15 sold to buy..
if you set the raffle for like 3 weeks and people see only a few have been bought then they would jump on it to not miss out.

but the deadline isnt time it is btc.. so people can afford to wait and see what happens.

well. I said a week so I'll keep that promise.  wouldn't be fair to those who bought a ticket already with the time specified.
I thought 20 was a reasonable number. you are right, certainly more can be sold. but 5% chance is pretty good.

here the risk is so damn small and reward is very nice. not your typical gambling payout...

the funny thing i don't get is ppl certainly can afford to spend 1 BTC... but hang on to it like it's the last one.
I mean, given some recent "good" luck on several pools, I bet alot of miners have made an extra BTC in the last few days to a week.

1 raffle ticket is 1 BTC.  Raffle occurs when either 20 tickets sold or 7 days after the time of first post. whichever comes first.

Unless all the tickets get picked up in the next couple of days, my chances are pretty good too, and poor Canary will end up selling his card for half what it's worth anyway  :P

He's also taking the risk of not selling very many tickets at all, and getting LESS BTC than he would have by selling it.  Charity or not, it's his choice to hold a raffle and sell however many tickets he wants, and your choice to buy a ticket or not.

Haha!  I almost bought a couple of more but I figured someone would swoop in and buy 8 or 9 to give them better odds.  Personally, I thought this was a brilliant idea - too bad it didn't work out for Canary :(  I'm guessing this will put an end to card raffles...

I got my dates mixed up... was expecting another evening to buy a ticket, then realized that my forum time was set to UTC.  :\

I don't think this should put raffles to an end.  maybe someone can run it more "actively" with modifications that make raffles more appealing...
i just didn't have enough time to promote and modify this raffle appropriately.
however, i had to keep my word, and i did.

that would be a really puzzling reason considering what miners put their cards through anyway.  plus that clipped of piece can be easily replaced.

I'm glad you guys had fun with this.  It was pretty amusing to read posts against this...

He did it was in the hardware section, the mining section, this section, the selling goods section. He literally posted this every where and bumped it constantly. I don't understand why people didn't buy tickets.
