Title: [DTC] Someone tried to gain control over Datacoin, but he failed
Post by: maxsolnc on December 21, 2013, 07:30:45 PM
Hi community,

I want to tell you a story about hacking Datacoin mail and twitter account.

All began when I received message from our promoter who works with Twitter: 'I cannot log in, incorrect password!'
I own datacoininfo@gmail.com, so only I can reset the password. 'Strange', I thought.
Then promoter told me: 'someone posted address with invalid BTC\DTC donations wallet!' You understand: Twitter account was hacked.
I tried to recover password, but nothing helped: I simply couldn't receive mail from Twitter. All my messages to their support also stayed unanswered.
I waited for some time - sometimes it takes time to receive mail from Twitter. Soon I noticed tweet in hacked account: "#datacoin is looking for developers and anyone interested in helping us continue to grow. Contact datacoininfo@gmail.com"
WOW, it was not ordinary hacker attack - someone has plans to gain control over Datacoin!
In some minutes I got new mail to datacoininfo@gmail.com : someone asked me about yesterday's mail regarding re-design of the site. After some conversation I understood that I didn't write any mails to this man yesterday.
Yes, you got it right: datacoininfo@gmail.com was also hacked, and there were filters for many addresses, twitter support was among them. Also I saw unusual activity for it.

Now I changed all passwords, enabled 2fa everywhere (hackers didn't got password to other mails, otherwise they could take full control over datacoininfo@gmail.com)

I want to sum up and tell you 2 things:

1. ALWAYS enable 2fa everywhere.
2. Datacoin seems very attractive to many of us, and someone wants to control it. Be aware!

yes, there were no compromising tweets...don't know about email, but seems the same. And that mails about re-design. Seems that someone wanted to get full control over our official accounts and replace things like donation address, binaries, etc. Or maybe (just thinking) it was someone from government-related organizations who sees this coin as a real thing for anonymous info and wants to ruin it or to become a spy.

So it was hacked from TOR network.

Could please anyone remember what happens when you try to log into your mailbox from 'unusual place'?

there were no phone numbers linked to it. There was only my own mail account linked to it, but there were no unusual activity in it, so no one confirmed login with my own account (anyway, I enabled 2fa on it too
