Hellow everyone. I am planning on preordering the butterfly labs 600 gh/s card that is shipping some time in February. I wanted to know how long that machine would be relevant and if there was a way to calculate the break even point. In short is it worth the investment eventhough it will be arriving next year?
no here is why

http://www.butterflylabs.com/monarch/  cost = 4680 for 600 gh you need a pc and you must supply power to run it.

ignore genesis block link posted below.

more  on why it is not a good deal

this deal is insanely better

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=335145.0

40 gh for 130 usd or 640 gh for 16x 130 = 2080    no pc no fuss no muss… s

so 600 gh for 4680  from a company that has a terrible rep

or 640 gh for 2080  from a company that has a good rep.

  both gear arrives in feb.

Back to genesis block info.    It can not be accurate long term predictor of btc price.    It may or may not be a good predictor of difficulty rate adjustment.

and no mater what it predicts   .  the dzcoop deal is less then half the price for more hashpower then the Monarch both  due the same month.

disclosure I have 10 shares of r17 or 400gh   ---------------------1300usd>>>>>>>>>  due to start in feb

I have 11 shares of r9-r12 or 88 gh---------------------------------1353usd>>>>>>>>I cashed out   2120 usd so far

I have 19 shares of r5-r6 or 110 gh   all from dZcoop-------------1482usd >>>>>>>> I cashed out 3683 usd so far

I have 1 share of r1 from them also. 192  --------------------------192usd>>>>>>>>>>dues to start in jan

I was just looking at the site and was wondering? Is this a physical product or a mining contract.

they are lifetime  contract you own a part of the machine.
when they sell them you off you get a part of the sale.
so far they have been good to me and a lot of other people.

as to whether it will make money ?????  remember in 2 days coins could be at 100 usd  or 1000 usd.  no one knows the price of the coin when these mine in feb.

Don't pre-order anything from BFL. If they say delivery in Feb it will be June or worse, and you will lose any potential profit. And there is some serious hashing coming online first quarter 2014. You don't wanna be sitting there waiting for a hashing unit to show up (late) when the network hash rate is climbing horribly, very bad  for blood pressure ;)

Do you have any suggestions on who to go towards? I'm looking to put in about $5,000 for equipment?

You definitely want to mine yourself? Wouldn't consider shares in a mining company?

I wouldn't too much stock into the timeline of yours when you're putting your chips in BFL's court...

FWIW, the question in the topic is confused.  The question shouldn't be "600 GH/s how long is it good for?" it should be "0.6J/GH how long is it good for?" since absolute hashrate has nothing at all to do with hour long you can usefully mine with it, but power consumption sure does. Any answer on the lifetime will ultimately be mostly conjecture, but at least its a sensible question once framed in terms of power.

I would agree, but so many people claim to have free electricity through various means .........

Talking about J/GH introduces another variable... BTC:USD price.. since power is billed in $. If BTC price suddenly for no apparent reason becomes $100000/BTC ... then i guess even mining on CPU would be cost effective in terms of J/GH

I've been looking around to see what $5000 can get me that will be relevant for the next six months.

About seven BTC, then hodl.

Power is too, but that's not what's being discussed.  Data centers pay demand charges, but Joe 600G doesn't.

ASI Chip manufacturers will just produce more chips. Think "efficiency", that is what counts.

600 GH/s will mine 0.225 BTC per day, right now... and will of course drop a little every week as difficulty increases.

With difficulty doubling monthly, "a little every week" is a bit ... little ;)
