Title: Largest Real-Time Exchanges? Mt. Gox and then?
Post by: bcurious on August 19, 2011, 12:29:52 PM
Hello

I have not found information about which are the largest real-time bitcoin exchanges.

I assume the largest of them is Mt. Gox?

But what are the 2nd and 3rd largest?
An article about bitomat.pl said it was the 3rd largest market, is that correct?
Tradehill doesn't seem to be that big if you look at the available data.

Has someone information about that?

Thank you!

I actually knew this site but didn't watch close enough :s

So it is like that: Mt.Gox largest by far!

1. Mt.GoxUSD (Vol: 17,221)
2. TradeHillUSD (Vol: 939)
3. ExchangebitcoinsUSD (Vol: 830)

It's actually quite sad, that there isn't another strong exchange

Active traders like larger exchanges because of the smaller spreads.

Other exchanges offer features that the largest exchanges don't offer.  For instance, ExchB's "deposit cash at any Wells Fargo or Chase branch" funding method.  Or like Intersango's no-commission trading at their exchanges (Britcoin.co.uk (GBP), Intersango.com (EUR), and Intersango.us (USD)).

Some also trade the smaller exchanges as well because the orders may not move in concert with the largest markets, leaving opportunities to make a profitable trade by engaging in arbitrage between two exchanges simultaneously:
