Do you want to store them online or on your own computer? If online, the best bet is blockchain.info. Set up two-factor authentication, and put a  second password on to be able to spend funds.

Care to elaborate on the scammer claim? I feel like claims those should be backed up pretty heavily.  As far as I'm concerned coinbase is a great company/website.

I'm always hesitant to use online wallets because currently there are no insurance policies like with a bank, even if a really great company/site gets hacked there is no GUARANTEE you will get your money back.  The largest loss I ever took with bitcoin was from an online wallet getting hacked (the site's wallet got hacked, not mine)

I agree with others though that the two best sites currently are coinbase or blockchain.info (not in any order).

If I were you I would not store coins online as it is not as secure as storing them on you PC. I would recommend MultiBit for ease of use and you don't need to download the whole blockchain.

Well that depends how well your computer is protected and how security conscious you are. Storing coins on an already compromised computer isn't going to go very well. Blockchain.info has a lot of decent security features, but if you can safely and competently store them offline, I would recommend that option.

Buying: localbitcoins.com

Storing: Mycelium wallet on an Android phone. Best and safest beginner's wallet out there.

Never store where they have the private key

Eg. Inputs.io, indtawallet, bips and many more

I guess this is a better place to  ask this rather than starting a new thread.

How strong is Bitcoin Armory (online wallet) using a 256 character password generated by KeePass on a computer used only for banking and other alt coin wallets?  In other words, there is no worry of viruses or malware.

I was using electrum offline but it became cumbersome.  So I want to use an online wallet with a strong password.

VERY strong, each try should take 64mb and 2 secs to compute

Can you just confirm that my only real worry is via virus/malware that might find out the password of my KeePass database and thus get into my Armory account?  And that so long as I use this laptop only for banking that I needn't be worried of that?

I buy coins from coinbase simply because it's convenient, and price is fair. The only problem I ever had with coinbase is slowish transfers out of CB wallet, which hasn't happened recently.

Online blockchain.info wallet if you intend to spend/send coins within a short time frame. Long term storage via usb wallet or similar device which does not stay connected to the internet.
