Title: OpenGL miners?
Post by: legolouman on August 19, 2011, 09:50:46 PM
My quest to bring some (very) old hardware to my mine has brought me to the need of a miner supporting OGL. As a mining newbie, I could very well look dumb asking this, but are there any miners that support OGL? My quick search didn't prove too successful and I don't want to rip apart my computer before I have an answer.

Thanks, and Cheers

Opengl is a framework for describing geometry, and displaying it. So a Opengl miner isn't even possible.
That's like you would want to have a operating system written in microsoft excel.

As I said, I would feel like an idiot asking... Thanks for the heads up, with an er, "straightforward" response. In theory though, if OGL is for geometry, which is nothing more than numbers, all it would take is a bridge? Eh, again just dumb and unsupported thoughts.

Thanks again

Oh and, do you want some screengrabs of my Excel based OS?

Well, you can lookup The sha256 algorithm on wikipedia and the opengl specification if something could be 'misused' for that purpose. But from what I know of opengl (not much I suppose) it cannot.

Sounds like an idea. I'll look into it.

Thanks again
