1911 United becomes first super PAC to support “Bitcoin candidates”

December 23, 2013

(Silicon Valley, CA) – While congress and the Federal Election Committee deliberate on whether Bitcoin should be recognized as currency for campaign donations, 1911 United super PAC is not wasting anytime.

The super PAC that is recognized as the first African-American super PAC to support President Obama in 2012, is now the first to garner support for democratic political candidates who support bitcoin – or “Bitcoin candidates”.

1911 United is also forging forward and accepting the currency as donations for their organizing efforts. The group is running a unique program that allows donors to select which Bitcoin candidate the super PAC will support in the upcoming election using a crowdfunding website that uses bitcoin.

“Our program democratizes the endorsement process.” said 1911 United spokesperson Frederick Butler.

"The goal of our organization is to support candidates who promote the social and economic freedoms of its citizens, and this program is just an extension of that. We aren't just trying to change politics, we want to change the culture of political engagement."

I'm game, if they're all on the side of crypto currency, then they won't take it away from us.  Think about when they established the Fed. At the same time they made private possession of gold coins illegal. I see a potential historical parity coming up if we don't get both sides on this. We can turn it into a non issue. So if you're a blue or a red in a reverse state, choke up your pride and write your representatives and let them know how important this issue is to you!

I thought that liberals will be the last people on earth to accept Bitcoin. Anyway, I hope they will not reverse their decision after coming in to pressure from the top brass.

Probably because you're locked into thinking "liberal"="authoritarians who are slightly less right-wing than the conservatives".

I believe we can separate the establishment of any given political party from it's constituents on their views. Most political parties are content (as an entity) to maintain the status quo, while merely giving themselves a slight leg up. It's not a race if it's not "neck-n-neck" all the time right?  Though, I can say, my exposure to people who ARE liberal is that they are very authoritarian, and want everyone to ride bikes made from hemp and cardboard, while eating only organic foods and opposing GMOs while half the world starves because GMOs are the only way to get anything to grow in a wasteland. ..  Sorry, got heated, just my two bit(coin)s.

Hmm... I don't want to discuss about authoritarianism. But liberals were the ones who strongly supported the banking bailout. Sinc ethye are so much strongly behind the financiers, why should they support the Bitcoin?

Coin PAC has been accepting bitcoin long before this pac was.  The idea of a pro-obama super pac accepting bitcoin to promote bitcoin candidates should raise a brow to everyone.  Big government and an anxious regulatory state is the biggest threat to bitcoin.

Are you seriously saying that George W. Bush was a liberal? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bailout#US_TARP_and_related_programs

As I said, you're locked into "liberals" being what passes as "liberal" in the USA.

Yeah I probably am, the closest foreign comparison I have would be UKs labor party, and I don't know much about their platform.

Other politicians who start to accept Bitcoin just begin to become a meme. Like Steve Stockman (R-TX):
