Title: Reasonable CPU mining hashrate
Post by: farnsbattletech on December 24, 2013, 05:37:52 AM
I know from lurking on these forums that CPU mining is not profitable and that the final answer is dependent on the CPU I'm using...but how do I find out if the hashrate I'm seeing when I mine is reasonable for that hardware?  Maybe I've got something configured wrong or I haven't figured out the mining software yet.

Right now on this old dinosaur I just put together from discarded parts I'm only getting .60 Khash/s  (that's right, under 1) while mining in a pool for litecoins. The CPU is an old AMD Athlon 1100 (circa 2001).

No making fun of the hardware or telling me that I'm wasting more energy than I'm making in coins.  I figured as much but I'm just playing around with things that I don't care if they meltdown and explode on me until I understand more about this whole new world you guys have here.  Once I understand and trust things enough then I'll commit some real hardware to this endeavor.

CPU Mining is not powerful to begin with, and even the latest mid range processors seem to get around 40kh/s. I have tried mining with my I7 and E3 Processors and can only get a max of 45-50kh/s and generally its closer to 32-35kh/s.

The ones I mentioned are new processors with 4 cores and Virtual Threading. You are using a CPU released over a decade ago boasting low clock speeds and only 1 core. I really doubt you are going to get over 1kh/s from that ever.

The statistics on CPU's are far less than GPU's, but you can use the following website to get an idea of what processors others use as well as the kh/s they obtained.

CPU mining was profitable but not anymore @OP because nowadays 0.60kH/S VS 1.000.000.000.000 TH/s seems unfair.
