I searched my list of fallback nodes reported by users and forum admins but failed to find bitcoincharts among them.

Fairly sure they do not have a node.

If you want another reliable one though (which is online 24/7), there's Mt. Gox's US node.

Bitcoincharts does not run a real node and it refuses connection from time to time. It's only collecting statistics and analyzing transactions.
