They work in either 1x or 16x slots, are powered, have caps for extra power filtering, have built-in pci-e presence mod for improved video card detection in certain motherboards, and use a 30cm long flexible USB cable for carrying the PCI-E signals instead of a ribbon cable that often is stiff and breaks solder contacts. Check them out.
