Title: Cooling the new Antminer Z9 Post by: poofy on May 16, 2018, 04:55:12 PM Hi all, first post here and first foray into mining so take it easy on me ;).
I've been slowly learning and waiting for a good time to get my feet wet with mining, starting with the first batch of Z9's seems like a good opportunity (I'm aware of the potential ZEC fork/algo tuning, no risk no reward right?). Living in Florida, my biggest concern has always been cooling, but it seems most guides to cooling ASICs have been targeted to units consuming way more power. At 300W each, what do you think is feasible for keeping 2 units operationally cool? Options: 1. I work remote, which means the AC is basically always on, and have an office with 2 windows. I could set something up there, and use headphones to tune out the noise. 2. I have a garage, but that seems like a stretch since they'll be shipped in June (100F in the garage in the summer, easily). 3. Shaded area in the backyard. I'm also prepared to have a 220v line run to power the units. My breaker (200 AMP) and in the garage, so that's one thing that makes the garage attractive, but there's no windows or vents in there. Cracking the garage isn't really an option either, my wife is convinced snakes will some in. I appreciate any advice! You won't have to do anything for cooling two of them. Sound will be another issue though. Though 2x 70dB fans screaming will be very annoying.
