Title: What are you mining?
Post by: krodmandoon on December 28, 2013, 03:47:43 PM
Hello everyone, new to forum. Just curious, out of those of you who are still GPU mining, what are you mining? I'm talking about your standard desktop rig not a  crazy GPU farm with 20" box fans in a basement. I'm plinking away at EAC, WDC and DOGE occasionally, but I've mined many others albeit few actual coins received. Also curious why you would be mining what you are mining. What are you looking for when you read about a new coin?

I mine Anoncoin as I like the coin - not purely for profit - mined EAC for a few hours yesterday and got 2010 but I dedicate my small rig to ANC - get about 1.5 a day - not a lot but it more than covers costs  ;)

Doge is more profitable now.

Thanks for the replies. So if you are mining Dogecoin are you mining strictly for profit to swap to BTC or because you believe it is viable coin? There is a great community no doubt and the /r/dogcoin is fantastic but I have serious doubts about the viability of its future.

I'm just starting to understand how alt-coins work.
I just started mining StableCoin yesterday because it seems to give me the most from my slow Laptop hash rates.
I've only CPU mined with a few Laptops I have.

I'm currently mining dogecoin on some old hardware of mine. It's not very profitable at the moment, but with my computer always on at the moment as a HTPC, why not let it run?

i mine doges at doge.n0nplusultra.net

the pool only consits of two miners...so i was thinking if it finds a block i'll get a big part of it but it would be good if there were a few more miners so the pool will find blocks more often but i believe a small pool is just the right thing for small newby miners...

looking forward to seeing some of you guys show up there...

cheers!

so if you are mining doge are you planning on holding or immediate xfer for BTC? I was doing the same but then instead of just sitting on the BTC i started buying shares in crypto exchanges and other projects as well as various holdings of other coins that can be had inexpensively. I just have trouble seeing doge being accepted 10 years from now.

I usually stick to mining coins that have not yet hit exchanges and although some are still yet to hit exchanges I've made a killing with my 2200kh/s mining coins such as COL, TIX, ADT, NET, LK7 and more recently DOGE and CAT upon release and before they hit exchanges.

What I do is more risky than setting my coins on an LTC pool and hoping for the best. And yes I've wasted days/weeks mining coins that will never hit exchanges such and BitcoinScrypt, TINcoin and the Sci-Fi coins(still holding and hoping on these) but its definitely safe so say I've done better this way.

I am always on the lookout for an opportunity to mine a coin that is relatively new and only available to one of the more obscure lower volume exchanges, this is how I made a couple of BTC from around a week mining Applecoin when it was only tradeable on the Chinese exchange btc-8.com.

Currently I'm mining a newish coin that has recently hit a newish exchange but doesn't seem to have as much attention as the DOGEs and the EACs. I'm keep the name of the coin to myself for the moment since buy orders for this coin are quite scarce at the minute so I suspect it might not last long.........

I'm checking out DOGE coins just to see how much I can make overnight. Aside from that, I'm trying to mine altcoins that seem capable of rising quickly in value.

I'm also considering checking out multipools. They sound quite interesting, even if I don't really like the somewhat lazy mentality of not even bothering to find the most profitable coin.

Right this moment I'm mining on several laptops and a few Block erupters.

The erupters are mining ASIC coin.
2 laptops mining Earthcoin
1 laptop mining Sexcoin.

I'm finishing up with SXC after my next auto payout, which should be this evening then migrating it to EAC.

With all these alt coins and my limited hashing power I never know what to mine at any given time.
I feel like a kid at disneyland and mom said i get to ride only one ride.

Litecoins with the gpu and whatever the flavor of the day is with the cpu. I try to read up on all the news I can for any and all coins and decide which one I am going to work on for a few days. Being a newbie I am still evaluating a lot of different communities centered around each coin and the tech benefits/advancements of each coin. There sure is a lot to digest.

mining doge and casinocoin. both solid as far as staying fairly level as far as profitability plus its nice to see all the dogecoin roll in while you mine. gives some nice vindicatuion.  i dont know how far doge will go but im selling some and keeping some while i mine.  mined a bit of netcoin too, not bad. its profitability is good periodically

I am still quite new to the mining aspect of crypto-coins and very surprised that there are so many alternatives to Bitcoin which I tried to mine ages ago but didn't get it going.

But now I have got Litecoin mining operating successfully. I only have an ordinary workstation and use the GPU running Cudaminer. I only achieve a hash rate of 175k so this is hardly economic.

I have traded BTC and LTC using a trading programme called Plus500.
I have traded normal foreign currencies for years and enjoy it as a challenge, it hasn't made me rich or poor.

Good Mining. May your hashrates be high

Yeah I actually almost got into Bitcoin back in 2011 but then ended up not doing it because of all the people and sites claiming that it's no longer profitable to mine and the low exchange rate. I regret it every day!

yeh I know, my friend who is a developer and I sat down together about months ago and brainstormed bitcoin as a 'thing' about six months ago when it was $30 US . ugh.

But as a trader I know that there are always plenty of future opportunities and the rule to be applied is "Could've, would've, should've, DIDN'T".
Move on seek out the next.

Good Mining. May your hashrates be high

I've been mostly mining Stable and Tag. I think Tag has some potential because it has a business attached to it and the coin compliments the business. So it's probably not going anywhere and if the business takes off, it'll be in good shape.

Was doing litecoin, but it's not worth it anymore. Looking for some more coins to mine though and waiting for Stablecoin difficulty to rectify itself.

I am mainly in DogeCoin and WorldCoin right now.
For those of you who are interested, there is a website (http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency) that compares profitability of major cryptocurrencies based on your hash rate.  All you do is enter your estimated hash rate for SHA-256 and Scrypt and it will give you a list of all the major cryptocurrencies with the estimated profit at that time.

If you want to mine the most profitable coin you can use middlecoin: http://middlecoin2.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/ or https://www.multipool.us. Both of which mine the most profitable coin. At the moment multipool is mining Dogecoins.

I'm mining with middlecoin at the moment (which converts all coins to bitcoins and then sends them to a wallet of your choice) and sometimes mine dogecoins using a pool, though with so many people mining them at the moment its probably best to mine a more new coin, though not sure which to go with at the moment.
