From: Know your MEME - DOGE (http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/doge)

Origin
The use of the misspelled word “doge” to refer to a dog dates back to June 24th, 2005, when it was mentioned in an episode of Homestar Runner’s puppet show. In the episode titled “Biz Cas Fri 1”, Homestar calls Strong Bad his “d-o-g-e” while trying to distract him from his work...  Look a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=tLSgRzCAtXA

On October 28th, 2010, a photo of a dog was submitted to the /r/Ads subreddit with the title “LMBO LOOK @ THIS FUKKIN DOGE,” where it received 266 upvotes, 218 points overall and 48 comments prior to being archived. Sometime in April 2012, Tumblr user leonsumbitches[15] uploaded an audio file of a computer reading a passage written like the commands of a turn-based adventure game about encountering a “doge.” The passage was paired with a photo of a woman patting a dog on the head[16] and has gained more than 33,000 notes as of July 2013.

But my FAVORITE.. is the Google Image search for DOGE (https://www.google.com/search?q=DOGE&num=100&client=firefox-a&hs=yt6&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=TXy_UpufOs-MkAeirYGYCA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=904)  =) Enjoy.

How Pronounce!!?!  - Nobody seems to know..

Mining DOGE coins is kind of like playing Cookie Clicker... the crazy quantities of coins you get creates an extra sense of satisfaction, making it more fun than other coins. Investment in them isn't really profitable in the long term, though, so I can't see it being anything more than a fad.

IMO dogecoin only has its popularity going for it. As a coin itself it doesn't really offer very much over other coins. Popularity from a meme will prob rise and die pretty quickly so I don't really see it becoming big in the long run. However, there is still quite a following for it on certain boards so who knows, maybe they will be able to keep it alive.

very interesting thoughts im currently seeing the coins value decreasing so im on the fence on wether to continue mining it or not (been mining for a day only at 370 khs and I have around 8k coins now, I am also thinking of buying an ltc mining rig With some shitty motherboard With Integrated CPU and 1x PCI-e 16x lane (enough for a single gpu) a 280x and a 600w PSU and later expanding into a bigger board if it goes well. Mining DOGE for now, reverting to LTC if it doesnt work and trading some BTC on the side. Does this sound kinda crazy? :P

Well dogecoin does hold in its meme effect, in reality if enough agrees together, that can alone be enough for it to take off.

I think it will  take off and stay around for a long time.
