So, two smart protocols that mix native currenciy and IOUs.

What are their strong and weak points in comparison?

'unfair' distribution is weak point for both.

In my opinion Ripple is worse - it is very centralized, making it easy target for institutions/states in case it gets more popular

This depends on the network's size and number of validators controled by different people.
If the network grows, it can be very descentralized.

Imagine bitcoin's very early days, and the difference now.

I think one of the most important points is that these systems are complementary. A Ripple NXT gateway already exists: https://peercover.com/#/simpleGateway (https://peercover.com/#/simpleGateway)

Ripple is backed by major investors, like Google Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz.

It is well staffed: https://www.ripplelabs.com/ (https://www.ripplelabs.com/)

They recently hired a co-founder of https://www.nodejitsu.com/ (https://www.nodejitsu.com/)

Source code is solid and readily available: https://github.com/ripple (https://github.com/ripple)

Pivotal features like Contracts are on the horizon: https://ripple.com/wiki/Contracts (https://ripple.com/wiki/Contracts)

A mobile client already exists: https://ripple.com/blog/introducing-ripple-client-the-ios-app/ (https://ripple.com/blog/introducing-ripple-client-the-ios-app/)

They have a lead in maturity, and that lead spans from business through code, features, and existing markets: https://ripplecharts.com/markets (https://ripplecharts.com/markets) (China was instrumental in driving growth this Fall)

I see a bright future for Ripple. NXT may grow to rival it, and I hope to see success on both fronts.

Can you give more details about NXT?

All unworthy of your time and wealth.

Wait for proof of burn / destruction of coins!
Will arrive one day.

Hoppefully with an anarcho-communist mindset, great wealth distribution.
NXT was a joke.... Extremely bad repartition on purpose!
Announce 1.5 month IPO income allowed, stop after 2 weeks for no honest reason.

You have power people, don't trow it away at all those gremlins coin without proof of burn.
