Title: Search Engine Results Snapshots (before & after) Post by: kroptofer on February 27, 2011, 12:59:20 AM Here is a screen I captured on January 16th, 2010: http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g352/kroptofer/2bitcoinSearchResultsAsOf16Jan2010.jpg Now here is a screenshot from today (February 26th, 2011): http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g352/kroptofer/2bitcoinSearchResultsAsOf26Feb2011.jpg that's more than a 47-fold increase! I guess I saved this screen-cap because I had a gut feeling that I will see a dramatic change in a short while. Let's not forget about AltaVista: January 23rd: http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g352/kroptofer/2BitcoinAltaVistaResultsAsOf23Jan2010.jpg Today (Again, February 26th, 2011): http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g352/kroptofer/2BitcoinAltaVistaResultsAsOf26Feb2011.jpg And does anyone still remember Alltheweb? January 23rd, '010: http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g352/kroptofer/2BitcoinAllTheWebResultsAsOf23Jan2010.jpg Today: http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g352/kroptofer/2BitcoinAllTheWebResultsAsOf26Feb2011.jpg And here's Lycos...no, just kidding. but seriously, does anyone have some older screen shots or statistics, maybe ones from 2009? By the way, is it just me or did the Google logo get a little bit bigger? Anyway, that's it for now. Title: Re: Search Engine Results Snapshots (before & after) Post by: comboy on February 27, 2011, 01:33:54 AM I like idea of tracking how bitcoin is gaining popularity. Here's one more from me (duckduckgo Feb 27 2011):

Well this one you don't really have to monitor. It keeps old data. There's also this: http://www.google.com/insights/search/#q=bitcoin about which I guess not so many people know because I saw only trends links on this forum so far. Title: Re: Search Engine Results Snapshots (before & after) Post by: Mike Hearn on February 27, 2011, 12:34:11 PM Hey, it's not a good idea to try and measure popularity using the "1 of X results" readout on Google. These counts can vary a lot depending on what's going on inside the search engine at the time the query is issued, which datacenter you talk to etc.
Google Trends is a much better way of looking at interest as real effort is made to ensure the data is meaningful. I'm sure BitCoin is getting a lot more mentions around the web, but don't take the figures there too seriously.
