Title: HTC Plans to Ship a Blockchain Phone This Year
Post by: Patatas on May 17, 2018, 08:27:12 PM
* Mods, feel free to move the thread to Alt-Coin discussion if it doesn't really fit here.

I'm sure all of you tech savvy folks would have already came across this news as it has flashing all over the product & crypto logs but for the late comers to the party, the title explains everything! And nope the news as for now doesn't reveal any ICO or some shit-coin associated with it.The central idea revolves around the decentralised app's concept which bitcoin will play a major role in.

It's pretty cool to see more of the blockchain technology adoption.
I didn't really get the benefit to the end user besides using it as a hardware wallet of sorts. This gives me something to read about tonight, as this is the first I heard about it.

Since it is one of the pioneers of a blockchain phone, I think the benefit of it is that it will be the gateway to a more convenient daily usage of cryptocurrencies, like how smartphones with mobile internet connection made internet easier to use. Furthermore, it will surely help in increasing the adoption rate of blockchain(because this move by HTC opened a way for cryptocurrencies to have more real world use cases).

it will be a modern style of hardware wallet and eliminates the dependency on the computer to spend Bitcoin.
The information is scarce so far, but I do not think it will provide higher security than hardware wallet.
I think marketing motivations "the Next Web" are the main reason for this machine rather than being a technological advance.

, it will surely help in increasing the adoption rate of blockchain
not blockchain, it’s HTC

Many technology designers have come up with mobile phones like the ladger nano S mobile storage device, but it has the basic features of a phone with high-security features. But I just saw it through advertisements and blogs, these phones I have never seen before.

Blockchain is becoming the most popular technology in all the sector day by day. Following the customer choice HTC is adopting this. And hopefully they will launch their techie phone in market soon. I believe their market share would raise a bit at least after launching this new phone.

HTC is already an outmoded brand, and it used to be a very good brand.
So now can a mobile phone company regain its glory with the blockchain?
I can't believe it.

A blockchain phone?
Does it means we could use its internal storage as a hardware wallet like ledger nano?
If this true, then it would be a new standard in the future. This phone gotta have serious security, tho.

They're going to name it Exodus, and first it was going to be Genesis?
There's already a multi-coin wallet named Exodus, wouldn't this cause problems in terms of trademarks.

I would think that the name Exodus is already registered by the guys from exodus.io?

Quote
Speaking to CoinDesk, Chen said that the goal was to build a product that would provide a high level of security for digital assets stored in the device, but one that also offers an ease of use other crypto-wallets on the market lack.

In particular, the Genesis is set to include a digital storefront for distributed apps, or dapps, in addition to a built-in wallet. The idea is that this store will be connected to offerings around existing blockchain networks, including ethereum.

So, behind all the fancy words...
It's a phone with a wallet and their own version of googleplay / appstore...

Really, trusting any company be it HTC or Huawei or ZTE with your BTC after the recent scandals of spyware and malware the phones come is worse than sending your coins to BoA.

HTC? If that is true that could be a huge step in terms of mobile computing. Mobile devices are not tend to be the always connected device which IoT just followed, and if that happen a core could possibly installed in the mobile phone. That could increase the amount of nodes that will fasten the services. However, I doubt the HTC just hop in to the blockchain to seduce some sales just like mobile phones nowadays which is commonly advertise with AI.

They already are.Just saw a post yesterday of amazon starting their own blockchain templates for anyone to create their own blockchain. You can see how experts at a particular product are binding it with the blockchain.Im sure there's more to come.

I doubt it.Exodus is an English word (derived maybe ) but there aren't any trademarks followed while using plain English words. However, genesis sounded like a much better name.

Conceptually, the idea is good for the crypto market as it constitutes a step in easing the use of crypto into the potentiality mass adaption. If the idea kicks-in, others may follow and we would have a boost.

The downside that I see is that, if if indeed does act as a hardware wallet, it inherently constitutes a high risk even if it is encrypted, fingerprint locked or retina scan protected. Just how many of us would walk around with our ledger nano s in our hand all the time and leave it out in the open on top of a table at bars or restaurants ?

The inherent risk of keeping crypto in a portable device that can be stolen, broken, dropped down the loo or even hacked and spied on is not my cup of tea.

That also means, the policies will get stricter on the usage of blockchain products. The problem with commercialising blockchain stuff is, it's dissolves the entire point of it.I hope their operating system will be open-sourced though.

It will be more than just a wallet.I'm pretty sure they will handle those security measures properly. It's not really upto the company to make sure your finger print scan is safe with you.
