Title: R9 290X GPU Cooling Requirements
Post by: gmoney$ on December 31, 2013, 04:22:24 PM
Could anyone tell me what the BTU rating of a server with 4 R9 290X cards would be?   I am able to meter the electricity used, currently 1.4Kw, but I don't know how to measure the heat output.

You can use a BTU calculator online, hope that will help you.

Is it a wrong rule of thumb to estimate 4* wattage used for btu requirements or is this overkill?

so if your 290X uses 300 W each then 1200 Watts * 4 = 4800 BTU so 5000 BTU would be ample?

According to this page:

http://www.rapidtables.com/convert/power/Watt_to_BTU.htm

If your hardware dissipates 1400 W, that is the same as 4777 BTU/h

Cant you just build a liquid cooling system? Because your going to mine 24/7 and its going to draw alot of heat into those beasts.

AMD Radeon R9 290 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550~600 Watt power supply unit.
AMD Radeon R9 290 Crossfire - On your average system the cards require you to have a 800 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

I know the more the better, but think You could lower that for at least 10% without any issuess. And from my research PSU price skyrockets drastically between 500 and 600 (at least at my country)

in my country, we use the fan for cooling our rig and open the window... so the wind can blow... :)
