Title: Power Supply Failures ? Rosewill HIVE
Post by: sundownz on January 02, 2014, 02:33:44 AM
Hey guys,

I built 10 dedicated miners in March originally doing Bitcoin now doing LTC / Dogecoin and have had 5 out of 10 power supplies fail on me to date -- I've had three replaced under RMA so far; and the service was great from Newegg and Rosewill so I cannot complain there. I'll be sending in the other 2 shortly for RMA (have a few other supplies I swapped in temporarily). They are Rosewill Hive 750-watt supplies with 2x Radeon 7950 each running stock clocks -- and also A10-8500k APUs using the integrated GPU to mine (doing Scrypt around 30 khash). I don't do anything else with them -- just mining.

Question is this... could this be a fluke ? A bad production run ? Or just a supply that will not last ?

My research indicates that 750-watt supplies should be more than adequate for this task but reliability has been less than stellar.

I bought them all at once -- the units I got back from RMA have a different cable design; perhaps different internals to fix a design flaw ?

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks!

PS : Good news is... all systems have made ROI and then some for me so I am pleased that I got into mining =)
