Title: Which exchange site is trusted in your eyes?
Post by: FreePls on January 02, 2014, 01:33:43 PM
I only know  coinex, cryptsy and vircurex..  ah yea and coinedup but never used that before

I feel safe with vircurex but the traffic isn't so high, but its good that you can trade all coins versus all coins,  cryptsy and coinex only have btc/ltc vs all coins

Which exchange site do you trust to deposit/trade larger volumes with it, like 10+ BTC ?

not sure if id "trust" any of them.

I trust Cryptsy for security. CoineUp and Coins-E for speed. But in general, I don't completely trust them all. I just trade for BTC and then send the BTC to Coinbase ASAP convert to USD.

I've had 0 issues with BTCE-E with LTC, BTC, XPM.

I've had 0 actual "I-lost-my-coins" type issues with Cryptsy either.

Cryptsy and BTC-e are the only two I am using.

Cryptsy has always been quick to respond to support questions. I think the biggest risk is having the site get hacked and losing your deposit- I think the real question is which site has the best security.

I would trust cryptsy because it's located in US and admin/support is responsive.  If anything goes south I know I can have some sort of legal protection.  Same can't be said for most foreign country exchanges.  And even with some of them you'd need to somehow communicate with a lawyer over there and not sure if that would be worth your while unless you had 100 BTC.

Never keep any more then you have to trade on any online location (and I make sure I never keep more then 10% of my crypto portfolio online fullstop).

BTC-E is one of the oldest exchanges, and one of the larger volume exchanges.

They gained quite a bit of creditability when the LR deposit system was "hacked" last year. Unlike the current trends in Crypto Coin based business, they ate the entire loss and restored the users accounts. I have seen numbers between 20k - 40k USD in losses they covered.

However, it is still good advice to keep coins you do not intend to trade in the near future in a personal wallet.
