Title: [POOL][2014 Predictions] SAT solvers, TH ASICS, Govs laws, WebCL, 200+ alts
Post by: nuno12345 on January 02, 2014, 09:51:30 PM
Yes we all know, bitcoin has become such an huge thing, 2013 was a great year, passing 1000$/btc, got adopted at many many stores and services and the possibility to get into huge markets such as ebay, first ATM was released like 3 months ago and now there are over 100.

What a great year for crypto nerds such as you and me :)

But since november/december we have seen an huge amount of interest in bitcoin.
Google trends (http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=bitcoin)

Big companies announced high tech asics, capable of terahashing.

SAT solvers are starting to get the attention of bitcoin, its an alternative to brute-force and becomes possible due to the very nature of bitcoin blocks structure.

Updated github (https://github.com/capiman/sha256-sat-bitcoin)

Governments are starting to look at bitcoin, china, india, norway....some as a threat others as "neutral"
Lets wait to see what the big brother has to say about this but we have seen some movements by the US such as blocking exchangers accounts, due to their system or to bitcoin itself I dont know.
In the other hand some very well known people and activists are spreading the work of bitcoin, such as facebook employees, max keiser and even snooplion(aka snoopdog) and Mel B from Spicy Girls (http://www.coindesk.com/mel-b-record-bitcoin/)

There are also some improvements into the mining software/structure/algo being made such as WebCL.
WebCL is OpenCL for browsers, this means a browser can mine with a GPU just by visiting a web page.
It was successfully tested on Firefox with Nokia WebCL: WebCL jsoclbm (http://webcl.nokiaresearch.com/jsoclbm/)
Theres also a Chromium-WebCL (https://github.com/amd/Chromium-WebCL) using Samsung WebCL

Who doesn't love alt coins? I do!
There are more than 200 coins now(i think) and it seems that after dogecoin there was a rush into building and deploying new coins, memes, fun coins, scams etc
I like some coins but how can this affect bitcoin network in the long term?
There are alot of intelligent users gathered around bitcoin, due to bitcoin itself, its nerdy and anonymous, so both """hackers""" and """"criminals"""" want to look deeper.
We have seen it all...scams, premines, 51% attacks, memes some illegal stuff and even the recent KnC attack

So, what's your prediction for 2014?!
All I know is that its going to be a hell of a ride! :D

Thank you all for your time
