Title: connecting risers 1x-16x to pci-e 16x slots
Post by: somethingfornothing on January 02, 2014, 11:51:35 PM
hello,
i'd like to know is it possible to connect 1x(male)-16x(female) powered risers to the motherboard's pci-e 16x slots? if yes, are there any disadvantages comparing to 16x-16x risers?

You can, yes, have a friend using a couple of them on 16x slots and it works fine. Planning on ordering some when I get more cards too. Here is the one he uses: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181285248039

jenveno thanks for a quick reply. i'm also wondering if the graphic card connected to the 1x-16x pci-e riser can be connected (and working) to the monitor?

Also, for mining, there is no disadvantage for doing so.

Yes, just don't try gaming with it

^ righto, yeah it operates as 1x speed PCIE, which is not optimal for gaming, but it will run monitors
