Title: THE Bitcoinduit games thread
Post by: geek-trader on August 27, 2011, 02:51:48 AM
No one else has done it yet, so I'll get it started.

I have 2 games on Bitcoinduit.

http://bitcoinduit.com/The_Forever_Game
1.15x, 15% jackpot,  Zero fees
This game has been running for over 10 days, and I expect it to run for much longer.
The jackpot is 9.48 BTC.  Someone is always going to get in to try to snag the jackpot, hence the name: The Forever Game

http://bitcoinduit.com/FRIDAY_20_gets_2  (this thread got deleted)
I will pay 2 BTC to the 20th bet
1.34x, 10% jackpot, Zero fees
there are currently 13 bets, and the jackpot is 1.68 BTC

I know Bitcoinduit has on their front page that you can't make a new game "currently", but i have faith that this awesome site will prevail and continue.

Thanks!

What are the rules of the game?  I can't find anything on the site.  Thank you.

Aha.  I'm glad you asked.  Since this will be the main thread for the main ponzi game site, I'm happy to explain.

The reason there's not much info on the site is that it's assumed players already know how this works.  I see you are new to the forums, so please allow me to explain.

These are ponzi games.  A ponzi is when later bettors pay off earlier bettors.  Ponzi schemes  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponzi_scheme are names after Charles Ponzi.  He ran several ponzi "schemes" in the 1920's, and the way he did it was shady and illegal.

The difference here is that the game is completely transparent.  There are no secrets.  It's an acknowledged gamble.

Theres the pot, this is how much is available to pay the bettors
There's the jackpot, that's what the last bettor in will win when the round expires.
Rounds expires after X hours with no one placing a bet.

So, let's say we have a round with a 10% ROI and a 10% jackpot.

The round creator puts in 1 BTC.  0.1 of this goes to the house, this house fee is only on the very first bet of the round.
* So, 1 BTC in.  With 10% ROI, he expects to get paid 1.1 BTC. 0.1 goes to the house, 0.1 to the jackpot.  The pot is now 0.8 BTC
* Bettor #2 puts in 1 BTC.  0.1 goes to the jackpot, which is now 0.2, and 0.9 to the pot, which is now 1.7
The 1.7 pot is enough to pay bet #1, so he gets paid 1.1.  The pot is now 0.6
* Bettor #3 puts in 0.5 BTC.  0.05 goes to the jackpot, which is now 0.25, and 0.4 goes to the pot.  The pot is now 1.1
The 1.1 pot is enough to pay bettor #2, so he gest paid 1.1  The pot is now 0.
* Bettor #4 puts in 1 BTC.  0.1 goes to the jackpot, 0.9 goes to the pot.  The pot is now 0.9
0.9 is enough to pay bettor #3 his 0.55.  The pot is now 0.35

etc....

until no one puts in a bet for x hours (24 or whatever is the number for that round) and the last person in wins the whole jackpot.

All the variables, the pot, the jackpot, the min and max bet, the number of hours before the round expires, they are all visible at all times.  You can make an informed decision before you place a bet.

Some bettors will lose their BTC.  That's why it's called gambling.

Look at some of the existing rounds. See for yourself how a high ROI affects the game vs a low ROI, and similarly how a high vs low jackpot affect the games.  Make an informed decision, and place a bet if you feel confident.

Good luck

I only have two games right now:

http://bitcoinduit.com/Long_bets
20% ROI, 15% jackpot.
Minimum of 0.1, maximum of 2.0.
The jackpot is more than 10x the minimum bet. The game has been getting some activity every 2.5 days, almost all bets of 0.1.

http://bitcoinduit.com/game/viewRound.php?id=Long_Bets_Two-Doubler
ROI: 100%
Jackpot: 30%
Bet range: 0.1-50
Fees: 0
Time to expiration: 24h
This game is still open to early, large bets to be paid off quickly.

Expired

Who else feels like the new rules killed ponzi? There hasn't been much activity on bitcoinduit or bitcatch lately... :( although it might have something to do with not being able to create new rounds..

I'm really wishing that someone would have been able to take over bitcoinduit.  I would do so myself, but I'm not certain how well I could maintain it alone.  Perhaps a group of people could be formed if the owner is interested still?

Title: Re: THE Bitcoinduit games thread

Well, I agree that is *seems* like the new rules killed ponzi.  However, Bitcoinduit already had a double bad day that day before, so I think the rule change was just the very last straw.

Also, just before the change, there was the post about how bitcat.ch was "a fucking scam" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=39246.msg483028#msg483028  so I think enthusiasm for that site was already on the down swing.

What good can come of this?

As a result of easy game creation, ponzi was over saturated.  Remember when we would all wait for bitcat.ch to start a round every friday? Or the few weeks King Of The Mountain rules Saturdays?  (until myBitcoin folded)

I hope regular, trusted rounds can make a comeback.  I'd be happy to play 1 or 2 *good* games a week instead of 8 or 10 marginal games a week.

That said, The Forever Game is still going strong :) see my sig.

I think you're right, it was pretty much game over saturation that killed it.  Perhaps I'll start another one up in the future, spreadsheet method and all.  The first one I did went for a long time and had 147.2 BTC played in it.

I was stupid and posted this in a new thread... anyways this offer is still open.
The first 1.5BTC address will get 0.25BTC sent promptly.

The first person to invest 1.5BTC or more from the same address on my game (http://bitcoinduit.com/2nd_gets_half_profit) will receive 0.25BTC for their investment.  Of course, this does not recoup your costs but 1.5 should add 0.225BTC to the jackpot, which I think is enough to get this game going.

EDIT! You can now choose instead to invest 1BTC and get 0.15BTC back.

Hi, I have an idea.  Everyone knows the success of the bernie_maddoff [sic] ponzi, which was successful because it had a high jackpot.  I was wondering if we could all pool our money together, create a high jackpot/high return ponzi and share the rewards or losses... such a ponzi would last a long time.

Does anyone notice that the massive jackpot seems to be crowding out all the usual evening activity?  It's like people think, "might as well go get the huge 17 btc jackpot so I won't invest elsewhere."  Last non-massivejackpot investment was about 1.6 hours ago.  Now I'm not criticizing the massive jackpot, but...

Does anyone notice that the massive jackpot seems to be crowding out all the usual evening activity?  It's like people think, "might as well go get the huge 17 btc jackpot so I won't invest elsewhere."  Last non-massivejackpot investment was about 1.6 hours ago.  Now I'm not criticizing the massive jackpot, but...
diversify, people!!  :D

Oh, so YOU can get the jackpot all to yourself?  ;D

foiled again!  >:( ;D

I'm sorry I started it. Lol. It's being sniped every 55-58 minutes, every single hour. It's turning into an ugly monster.

DAMMIT!  someone won it.  Not me   :'(  I was in the shower.

Effective Immediately - Rule Changes

Initial Deposit Host Fee: 25%
100% of Expired Pots now go to Hosts

Deal with it.

Title: Re: THE Bitcoinduit games thread
Post by: CJYP on September 04, 2011, 06:16:42 AM
So that means the 25% of the initial deposit is returned to the depositor, and the final pot all goes to whoever hosted the round?
Just making sure I'm reading that right.

So that means the 25% of the initial deposit is returned to the depositor, and the final pot all goes to whoever hosted the round?
Just making sure I'm reading that right.

Let me explain.

I'm tired of seeing single bet rounds expire bet-less because of poor and unattractive rule choices. I actually feel bad for those people, because they really should have just picked rounds that already have activity that have a decent chance of payout. Because of that, I'd prefer that Hosts who actually understand rule settings be the majority of the host population.

Therefore, on initial deposit, 25% of the initial Host Deposit is Bitcoinduits. The expired pot at the end now goes 100% to the host. I'd like to have fewer, more active games, and in order to accomplish that, I did what I did.

I know that some people won't like it, but hey.. Tough luck. Make your own Bitcoinduit and deal with the headaches yourself.

I'd rather have quality over quantity.

Regards,
Jonathan

I definitely support the new rules.

I also think something should be changed to prevent a mostly inactive game from lasting for eternity.  For example, Jackpot Doubler will probably never end because people just keep trying to snipe the jackpot, and with a 72 hour expiration, it takes a long time for someone to decide to finally step in and put in that tiny 0.1 BTC bet.

Well, my short experiment in Ponzi is over (not due to the new rules).  I put in 1BTC and that went up to 3.6BTC in just 4 days, but I lost all of that in the second massive game.  Just thought I'd post my results.  Newcomers: you can actually earn very quickly in this game!

Title: Re: THE Bitcoinduit games thread
Post by: Sohcahtoa on September 04, 2011, 04:43:59 PM
Yeah, I gotta say that I've come out ahead in the ponzi game, but not that much.  I've mined 1.25 BTC over the past two months (Slush's pool with my crappy GeForce 460 GTX that only does about 60 MH/s), but I've gained 1 BTC from the ponzis.  I'm thinking of starting up my own gambling site.  I already know some PHP/MySQL, but I'm so busy with college for the next few days that I don't have the time to look up on coding and interfacing with BitCoin.

It's a holiday in the USA.

Also,

I usually bet 2-5 BTC a day (or more) on Bitcoinduit, but I lost almost all my BTC ( I lost over 25) in a drunken Blackjack session a few nights ago.  I'll pick up some more tomorrow when the banks open.  I'm actually excited to see how the ExChB "deposit cash at the bank" system works.

My loss was ugly.  Blackjack is fickle.

I was up about 7 BTC for the week so far.  I settled in to win more.

I lost about 5, then I kept trying to win them back, and lost all 10 I had in my local wallet.

So I tapped into my savings at MtGox, and lost almost all of it.  Which sucks, because the power bill is due soon, and my mining part of it is about $75.

The only bright side here is that the price has dropped to the low $7 range, so that lessens my loss a bit.  I'm just going to pay the power bill out of pocket and pick up some more BTC tomorrow.

On the bright side, the site operator noticed my huge loss and bought me 2 movie tickets of my choice.  My wife and I saw "Senna" for free yesterday.  Well, kinda free.   :'(

And no more online blackjack for a while.  Ponzi is much safer.  ;D

Also, to answer the Poker thing...we already have a couple Poker sites for BTC, and they're mostly ghost towns except for the pre-arranged tournaments.  I don't want the BTC poker scene to become more fragmented than it already is.

When bitcoinduit had the brief downtime a few days ago, you extended all the rounds expire time by 10 hours. Can you put them back now?  For example, "The Forever Game" was 48 hours, and now it's 58.  Could you put it back to 48?  There have been bets, so it's been reset since the downtime.

Thanks!

Actually I'm thinking it might even be a good idea to reset all of those old games to min(their original expire time, 12 hours).  They're never going to end at this rate.

Ah rule changes, anyway wasted my last coins so couldn't have kept round going anyway. Still, I don't like changing stuff without any notice, for those people you got email. Not sure if it would have been possible to inform those who have unfilled bit with email about change in rounds they are in.

Hmm.. People don't like change. It's true. If you go back through the thread, you'll see that there was notice.

What's your receiving address? I'll send you a gift.

Un-noticed change, no need, I lost my share.

Just a suggestion: add Jackpot % in the list of games too, it would contain all needed info then.

Good point.. We have never sent a single email to anyone though. I forgot we even did email collection to be honest. That was implemented more as a record keeping function for the users.

Next time there's a rule change, we'll spam everyone.

I think I found a bug.  If you create a round with a 0.4 minimum the software says, "please send your initial deposit of between 0.5 and ..."

Not a bug so much as a feature we didn't implement yet. It's the minimum host deposit, which should be 0.5, even if rounds are 0.1 minimum for players.

Not a bug, just not currently enforced.

I think it might be a good idea if bitcoinduit were to remove the caps on jackpot.  We have a limit at 30 right now but some people might be interested in 50% or 75% and I think we should let the market decide whether those percentages are workable or not.

I've just started a prime_numbers round:

roi: 7%
jackpot: 13%

I'll reinvest!

I hate Bitcoinduit.

Sorry.

I really want to see it die. Still, you guys like it, so it will stay up.

However, in a minute we're going to switch to poker, and we're writing the API and backend to support centralized listing of all the poker games that are under way. seals with clubs, btcontilt, I'm talking to you.

With a callback link that I'm generating for you right now. You put it in the callback area on your server. Now, if you're using that already, instead of the server API, which would be silly, then there's a problem.

Otherwise, just put the link i send you in the callback url area and check the boxes for stats.

Did you take a site template from 1995?  The background on that site looks like it... haha

Sort of, yes.

I'm all about functionality.

Maybe i'll update it, but the back end is way more important.

Now that I can understand.... anytime I make a site it ends up being white background/black text because I make it work and don't worry about how it looks till it works the way I want it to.  Even when I'm done I can't make them look nice all by myself.

The house takes 2% of each deposit, and 10% of the first. 12%. House only get the 10% when a second deposit is made. But yes, bitconduit is old, bitponzi is the new one.
