Title: cost benefit - sell cards or mine?
Post by: kalus on January 04, 2014, 12:07:38 PM
So i was at the computer store today, and it turns out the R9 280x have been trickling through on backorders.  people are going out the door and selling them on craigslist.  cost of cards are about $300, and i've seen prices up to $500 for brand-new-in-box cards.

Currently, demand for 7950s are so high right now i see them listed for $300-450 for used, fucking cards.

People are putting cash into vapourware ASICs.  the design and fab are possible, but all of the companies are as dodgy looking as fuck.

so, is it better to mine now?  to sell pickaxes and shovels?  risk it all on a manufacturer in an extradition-free country?

ebay sellers are pricing scrypt mining rigs ~$1000/1mh, but the price is variable, and goes up, up up!

Supply and demand. Too many people without enough understanding of long term profit margins are throwing money at rigs and hardware they know nothing about.

i'm wondering at this point whether it's more profitable to sell the rigs vs. mining them, esp. at these prices.

oooh strong support for 'meat popsicle'

Do both!  Mine and sell them rigs.  Either way they're going to buy from someone and some don't have the technical knowledge to put them together.

that after-sales customer care is gonna be a bitch for non-technical gold-rushers.  i can imagine the voicemailbox resembling the hashco.ws thread in spoken word.
