Satoshi might have heard this before releasing Bitcoin, but not before designing Bitcoin. Here's a post (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=13.msg46#msg46) where Satoshi says "The design and coding started in 2007".He repeated the comment in this post (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195.msg1617#msg1617): Quote Since 2007.
