Title: [FREE] How to Hack your Wii to play games from SD/USB
Post by: nefanon on August 29, 2011, 07:18:32 PM
I just finished doing this over the weekend and it works great with the newest patched Wii:

http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/60921-guide-softmod-any-wii.html

After Chapter 3 in the guide (downloading the app pack) I was able to download 4 Wii Games via uTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/), copy it to a USB device with WBFS Manager (http://wbfsmanager.codeplex.com/) (Wii Backup File System) and they played perfectly with the "Configurable USB Loader" (part of the app pack).

ProTip: To get the cover art to work, press (1) when you have the game selected in the Loader, scroll down to 'Cover Art' and select 'Download'.

Why do people STILL use CIOSes when we have HW_AHBPROT flag that doesn't require hacking around with Custom IOSes that could brick your Wii?
(Waninkoko aka. Wanky is infamous for this, doesn't come as a surprise one of his custom PS3 firmwares caused a bunch of bricked consoles)

That, and you are a dick and giving Wii homebrew community a bad image if you are using this for piracy, remember, you can dump the ISO image yourself from your own Wii disc if you want to use the backup loaders.

You're truly naive if you think most people use this for homebrew applications. Developers are really scrambling to harness the "power" of the Wii  :P

Yep, most people (13 year old self-entitled kids) use this for piracy.

Shame, since I enjoy using the homebrew media players and emulators, alongside with some other useful utilities. Piracy is the only reason Nintendo is seeking to stop this, although their attempts have been futile so far and it seems that they have stopped trying altogether now.

I did it so that I could use my Wii as an Xvid/DVD player...I have barely ever used it for gaming anyways (except World of Goo, sidenote: you can use 2 controllers at the same time on World of Goo for the Wii, not so for PC)
