Title: Ice Fury - missing part
Post by: MaxGen on January 07, 2014, 01:58:16 AM
Looks like my Ice Fury lost a part in shipping.  Anyone know what the part was?  Any chance I can fix this on my own?

Wait a minute!  There it is, right on the left side...  It's so small.  I think it's broken though as the top pad still has the tab attached to it.

I'll need a microscope for any chance to read it...

That is a chip capacitor.  You should be able to buy a replacement from digikey if you can find out what capacitance is supposed to be used.

The missing part is a 100nF capacitor. The device can still function without it.

Or you could just solder it back on, no microscope required. But you may need to file the soldering iron tip down a bit.

Thanks Beastlymac,

The unit seems dead.  No lights, and when I plug it into my Ankar hub, the port shuts down immediately.

Do you mean I have to short the pads with solder to get it to work without the capacitor?

Looks like a soldering issue as pointed out below.

I don't have one of these in front of me to compare, but is this soldering linking the pins together (white arrows) considered normal for the iF1?

No, it looks like the quality checks missed picking that up.

Thanks for all your help guys.  I've tried mining on Windows 8 and my rpi's.  Same symptoms, it just never sees anything being connected; Doesn't see it and mark it as failed.

I'll try contacting my GB seller first.  My GB seller has been pretty good so far.

Hey MaxGen I'm based out of Canada and would be able to help provide support.

I have an office located in North York and will have a shipment coming in next week. I can easily replace your defective unit for you and save you all the hassle.

By chance do you go to the Toronto Bitcoin MeetUps at Bitcoin Decentral downtown?

Also anyone in Canada interested in purchasing Ice Fury USB Miners can contact me directly or make a purchase through my webstore

I also run a mining pool located at

Yep it is stuck to the tape on the left hand side.
but that PCB is wrong on so many levels, some seriously wrong production processes there……

Yep they do…  and I can offer you  pre-screened 2.6 from red fury for less than that.

Just buy from a reseller on the forum or direct from snoopy_nzl that is the best way to avoid all the massive MM cost.
