I'm still somewhat new on Alternative Cryptos and I want to get a sense of the coins that are here to stay and grow. (Don't tell me dogecoin please.)
What do you guys think?

seems like the coins that get the most attention that everyone is always yelling about are the worst , the better coins dont hype i guess they don't need it

It's a joke ;) Of the new coins launched I think EAC has a good chance of survival.

I personally believe in the following in order-
Peercoin
NXT
eMunie (To be released for presale any day)

Btc obviously has its advantages being first in.
Ltc is just btc clone but has history and big support.
Some at the top of coinmarketcap are unique but their benefits will be absorbed through nxt and eMunie.

Most altcoins are scamcoins for pump and dump an will be dead within 6 months.

Why do you say NXT? I am still new to CryptoCoins, but to me it doesn't sound interesting plus it doesn't seem to have that much noise?

Peercoin, Anoncoin and Litecoin is the only one im holding long.

take a look at ADT :) has a good future just been fixed and more improvements on the way :)

We're not hyping it, but many-many new features, platforms and applications are being prepared for release.

I keep forgetting DTC is still pretty new :P

RPC because no other coin has tried to keep their volume as low as RPC. I am not sure how it will play out but I am optimistic.

Anoncoin (for now) and Zerocoin once it is released. Both are fairly anonymous but where anoncoin fails is that anonymity isn't built in. Only the ABILITY to be anonymous is built in. I believe Zerocoin will surpass ANC and become one of the greats, given time.

A few other ones might be CAT (though not sure right now), NMC, LTC and BTC ofc, other established alts (PPC, etc), I am not seeing much in the way of other alts surviving because they are mostly pump'n'dump scams. Even EAC seems a little more dangerous to invest in with the premine but I believe it may go somewhere since it already has some traction.

Stay away from coins like NXT. They are nice and all, but do we really want to promote a coin that acts centralized when the whole point of these coins was to be decentralized? I would hope not. Not to mention PoS is kind of a dumb way to make a system. It's new, but is even worse in the wealth disparity than most others. It's instamining on a whole new level.

Dimecoin is very promising alternative cryptocurrency. Community around Dimecoin has grown big and healthy and there are new services and marketplaces coming around Dimecoin every week. Dimecoin was added to CoinedUp last week and soon to Cryptsy as well I believe.

Protoshares / Bitshares

Datacoin is less that 2 month old. About to get on cryptsy. You can mine it even with laptop. And it is a serious coin. It wont make you rich tomorrow. But it will make you money in the long term and also make you have the nice capabilities that it offers.

Lottocoin is heading places, professional casino as well as additional exchanges have been announced! Many games and soon to be accepted as payment on Coinpayment as well! Best thing is, it isn't even a month old!

Yeah I've been mining it with my laptop for about 4 weeks:) I said in the DTC thread that I do not understand why people do not fall in love with DTC when it offers the data storage it does. Technically speaking it is IMO the best coin out there. The Edward Snowdens of the future could reallyuse it. If you ask me he did the right thing and we need tech to support people like that

In regards to nxt, I think there are many pros and cons to this coin. I personally bought some cheap for myself and some family members. Here is some information from their website-

But this is obviously a little bias, so here is my honest opinion, even though I have alot to gain the more people that buy this 'coin'.

What first drew me to nxt was its insane amount of features (yet to be implemented) it was promoting and the fact that it is 100% proof of stake. It's very debatable but I think pos is the future since mining can actually be very technical for the novice user and pos doesn't require any real effort at all (anyone can do it at not extra expense of top of your current coins, which is what you want anyway!).  I can't be bothered to list the features and explain why I like them but it should be obvious.

On the other hand there are the cons. This coin was, what is called in the proof of work world, 'pre-mined'. This means all of the nxt coins were created instantly and distributed. This is only bad because of the way this coin was distributed, which is to the quantity of people, the marketing done to make more people aware and what I think is worse, the current price (rumoured to be manipulated to be higher) on dgex (the temporary centralized exchange). So this was done through an IPO, people had like a number of weeks notice? maybe, I don't know how long but people essentially invested in this coin they didn't know was a scam or not and would receive that percentage of their contribution in nxt coins. There were around 70 contributors(wallets at least), giving a total around 22 btc. This is bad when you consider that there are 1 billion coins and to make it worse the current price is 0.000055 btc/nxt.

Some simple math, if one could sell all at the current price which is impossible (for now), so the rumour is people sort of stack their selling over time to get the most out of selling and fluctuating the price (I believe this has to happen to eventually distribute the coins)-
On averages, 70 people. 22 btc.
That is 0.31 bitcoins each.
Which gives every person around 14 million nxt each.
At the current price, 14 million would yield 785 btc.
This equals around 250 000% profit if they were to sell everything at this price.

Now you have to ask yourself. Do these people deserve this much profit(as they risked $100's on what could very have been a scam)? Is the coin that great that it can get through this delivery of wealth to such a small few (if they sell)? Will the stakeholders even want to sell? Will the promised features ever be released? Will a clone take over and market, release and be better than nxt?

In my opinion.
Short term = big risk at any price.
Long term = if it survives the short term, very very high profit margin potentially available.

This is all my personal opinion. I gain a lot by nxt succeeding but only because I believe in it and have therefore invested.

On another note, eMunie appears to have addressed every 'con' nxt has, plus all of the pros and much more. It is a completely different ball game and follows the quantity theory of money. It isn't for large profits (but could potentially over time) but looks very innovative.
