Title: Newbie Restrictions compared to buying your first Bitcoin
Post by: ker on January 07, 2014, 10:09:50 AM
Wow i never knew i would have to write an essay to eventually be able to post on the Bitcoin Forum. It was a lot easier to buy my first bitcoin than this , Its a bit like posting on a dating website and you know most of us men cant be bothered posting a 300 word description of what our interests are? who our ideal partner is ? etc
obviously its a one word answer
interests =  Bitcoin,
Ideal partner = Bitcoin (virtual doesnt nag just increases in value :)

hard and stony way to the first non-newby-reply  ;D

There is no right way or wrong way by the looks of it, just keep trying, like the green card

Yeah.  I've been surprised by the serious nature of getting to post on the non-newbie forums.

Guess it must have been a real cluster of spammers and jokers in order to need such serious rules throttling back posts from new users.

Ahhh, the march of progress.

If you would have bothered to read the newbie stickie it says you also have to wait 4 hours. I'm getting tired of noobs complaining about the restriction;) It's normal forum etiquette to read stickies and such before you even make a post. Newbie jail is good, read the stickies.

Its a bit like waiting patiently to see if the price of bitcoin will rise or fall, fail or succeed

Seriously though I would love for the Bitcoin price to drop substantially.. even to $10 as some people have mentioned so us newbies can buy lots more and then it goes to the moon

2 hours 58 minutes it says now.

Weird.  Wonder what kind of algorithm they are using to create "bitcointalk time?"

I've got to admit my first experience in this website isn't going well, I had to jump through less hoops when I bought my house.  Along with only being able to post once every 6 minutes is INFURIATING, especially when simple things like LOGGING IN trigger the timer.

But I guess when you think about it it's not that bad a price to pay to filter out the asshole kids that no doubt shit up the place.

Mined my first coins back in 2011, been lurking on these forums for a couple years and had mixed results from a few trades. How many posts do we need to get out of this newb section?

You don't need to write an essay,Just waiting for 4 hours while being active and browsing and posting a single reply (and the one line ones work too I guess) so it's more about waiting and browsing/looking around than writing.

You have to be active, i.e read stickies or post here. If you log out the timer stops, same if you go AFK. This what I've seen other users say.

My original and FIRST post threw a '360 seconds since last post' warning! Duh? It was FIRST post!

Just need to post a question about cpuminer 2.3.2 on Ubuntu 10.04 that stopped working... wait 4 hours... yawn...

I didn't mind the essay.  I don't really blog or journal so it was kind of nice to do a quick recap of how I ended up getting involved with bitcoin and crypto in general.

And welcome from a fellow n00b and longtime lurker!

No, that isn't right.  I bet I've been on the site a total of 25-30 hours the past 2 days, and I've only been credited with being here 3.5 now....

Is part of this built on the number of posts, you think?

Title: Re: Newbie Restrictions compared to buying your first Bitcoin

Whats worse than newbie status, is the 3 minute post wait time. But then the forum software thinks you double post, so you can't post what you wanted to post even after 3 minutes. It feels like hell.

That being said, I'm a jr member now, and I wasn't scared away. So I like this place, and maybe its a good deterrent.

It seems to start at 5 minutes, actually.

I think I'm down to just two minutes now between posts...

Here's my big substantial newbie post.

My first encounter with Bitcoin dates back to year 1849. I was a tall, slander, handsome, scrubby but most importantly of all - single - dude. I was a visionary and a forward-thinker. I discovered the "bit" part of bitcoin at an early age but it wasn't until '49 until I discovered the "coin" part.

I was 17 at the time. The first paycheck I earned from my mining gig in California was paid to me in coins. I thought to myself "coins are awesome!". That was a milestone. On that day I started collecting coins bit by bit until I got a sack full of copper. I started referring to them as "bit-by-bit coins". It was my own hard earned money. I was proud. I spent it women, booze, and chemical stimulants. It was money well spent. Since the name bit-by-bit coin was a bit awkward, I shortened it to "bitcoin". And that's the story of the original bitcoin folks.

Okay, so we don't have to start a new thread for our 'first post' to count? Hopefully, this will cover all I need right here. La di dah, uh, my mind has gone blank - I can't think of anything more to write - I've got writer's block and this won't count as long enough for my first post! Arrgghhh! Alternately, it just may not be significant enough to count as my first post. Darn. How can I master this beast? All is lost.... no substantial first post for me. I know, just copy the post above me:
