So this has definitely come up a few times but my case seem a bit different. I have left BitCoin-qt 0.8.6 (Mac OSX Mavericks) running for a few days now on a 15-20Mbps connection and I am only at 20% synch. Is there something wrong or something I can do to speed this up? There you will see the current number of blocks and the estimated total blocks and the last block time. See if the current number of blocks field is going up. If so it's OK. Then you probably have a slow computer or have a lot of programs running in the background.

Thank you! That's downloading at over 2.5MBps so it shouldn't be more than a few hours. That file is from august though so I will probably still have some catching up to do afterwards =/ But seriously...thank you haha exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I decided that I was already on my way and I wanted to have the blockchain...not sure why yet but I WANT it haha.
