The dream is to get rich and this will drive value of certain coins. That is quite some time off. So your investment may take 5 years or more to really yield on high risk alt coins.
Currency is a funny thing. Look at what happened to really currencies. In Europe you had many, now the Euro has taken most of them away. Look at real world lessons.
