It will continue as long as people are prepared to mine them. Maybe people will get bored eventually, but you can make a quick bit of profit by getting in early then pumping and dumping, so as long as this is happening people will still keep creating these shitcoins.

the most alts are pre-mined scam coins. stay with btc and ltc and you are fine.

Probbly not as long as people keep mining them and making profit from them. Hopefully their appeal will die off, but you must remember its still early days for crypto and many people are wanting their piece of pie as they missed out on the Bitcoin feast  :D.

As on every market lot of rubbish appears. Lot of modern examples. Take a look on tablets and smartphones. Also shows that it`s wild time when every coin can became profitable and have it own capitalization. Seems in several months situation will change dramatically, only several of them will survive. Technologies will change a lot.

Probably in the next few years they'll stop making altcoins, now is very common because the market is rising, and that means "competition" (so to speak) rises, but as fewer people take the altcoins seriously, the production of new ones and the stability of the current are going to decrease over time.

There is a big difference between an innovative cryptocurrency and a copycoin.

Among the big amount of shitcoin, there is few interesting coins.

Which ones? There also seems to be a lot of coins claiming to be innovate or original, but in reality they aren't.

My take on Alt coin fever:
- Most coins made by few developers
- Made for purpose to drip or dump for BTC (obviously) as low cost for new coin and can make easy 100-200k or BTC off the suckers
- I’ve bee looking for a while and there are some good alts out there but its all about BTC even LTC in my opinion doesn't serve a need, 'it’s BTC silver' -give me a break. Although I do own some cause I can see demand.  SBC is currently most undervalued coin by far. Talented developer (Artos) and mixing service features that could potentially be first to be released on alt market and at current its MV is 700k even con's like BBQ and Earthcoin are over 1m, what a joke.  Who is buying this crap
- Alt fever will taper off shortly as ppl will understand they are irrelevant and get tired of same rubbish (doge was peak of this and the rest are boring).  Which is great as bad alts will swim naked
- Sure alts have some promising features but won’t compete with BTC hashing power for foreseeable future
- Most people are gambling to increase BTC position (you all know it)

Most importantly we are still early in Crypto game and if you want to play own some BTC first and consider what you put in alts an amount that if you lose you wouldn’t cry over.

Here is a few I can think of :

Ripples (XRP) This one is centralized so don't use it please.
MasterCoin (MSC) Build on top of Bitcoin protocol.
Namecoin (NMC) Used for domain name.
ProtoShares (PTS) It is part of a bigger project.
Primecoin (XPM) Use hashing to find prime number.
Next (NXT) Most innovative coin ever. Most active altcoin. Best market progression. Thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.0)

Some others :
Anon Coin
Decrits
eMunie
Mini-Blockchain Project
NetCoin
PeerCoin
United Scrypt Coin
ZeroCoin

argentum coin is great for noobs, built in miner in wallet, very easy to solo mine. I got 1800 arg on one computer only 1 month of mining and 700arg on other older pc 3 weeks of mining. its listed for 22 cents a coin. easiest to set up but its set to be usless to gpu mine and weak on pool mining.

Another very interesting coin is E-Token. Probably this one will get serious value in the future.

I've heard a lot of bad things about most of those coins and especially their prices being artificial inflated by fraudulent trading etc.
