Title: Time as a medium of exchange? Why do we use money?
Post by: MoneyIsWorseThanCancer on May 21, 2018, 08:56:34 AM
Hello, Normal everyday average guy here just wondering why

Why do we use money?

I see every other species doing fine without it, heck alligators that are even older than us seem pretty well off without it. So why do we use it?
If time is money and for the most part peoples time creates money and gives it a value why not just give people time or have people create there own time? I understand things also cost money but why not assign them an amount of time like a bag of chips is 10 seconds?

Would it be easy to create a timed currency using block chain?
one where you can reward users for their time (voting and making everyone a politician of the system could create basic income as there will always be time needed for people to vote if they wanted to create time)
and people could vote on what jobs should be paid a higher multiplier on someones time (reputation) we could call it.

^I know some people will be like well a doctor and a guy flipping hamburgers should not be paid the same but in my eyes I worked on a farm feeding all of you in my entire life and I had a handicap guy working next to me he would pick 1 basket and I would pick 20 baskets in a hour, but we both used an hour of our time, and I agree he should be paid the same as me for that hour.  Yes I know some people would slack off but there could be penalty time just like in hockey to if enough people gave that person negative reputation or something like that.

an hour would be with an hour, some people could make 5 hours in one hour because they have a higher stress job if people voted that job should get a higher wage, you could still tax the time to have public services (new government)

It just makes no sense to me to work for another mans money supply, I rather be dead to be honest. Why do we not all create are our money supply's for crying out loud a meme dogecoin has more "value" then my entire life.

so yah, why do we use debt notes instead of time notes? I think money is worse than cancer and is the real problem with our species and it`s enslaving us all please convince me otherwise

why not distribute a currency through time? like everyone collects at the same rate (unless doing things to speed up there time, like working), and have a fairly distributed currency for once? I always see people complain about premine or ico`s and for crying out loud you can buy all the btc with unlimited amounts of fiat. does this not fix these major issues?

why vote people to vote for us?  44 new laws in Canada this year, how long could it take 1 person to vote on each of those issues less then a hour?
https://www.strawpoll.me/15739355

why pay someone to vote for us? why not be paid to vote? and actually have your vote matter and not be able to be bought or bribed, like obama says he will remove all the troops when he got in, then got in and sent more in and did the opposite...

You might value your time more than your money but how will you feed yourself if you don't have it? How will you buy your daily necessities without it? The real reason why everybody use fiat currency is because of it being used by most of the people alive on Earth.
why pay someone to vote for us? why not be paid to vote? and actually have your vote matter and not be able to be bought or bribed, like obama says he will remove all the troops when he got in, then got in and sent more in and did the opposite...
That's politics for you and no one can do a thing about it alone if most of us likes the way it is(particularly elites).
If time is money and for the most part peoples time creates money and gives it a value why not just give people time or have people create there own time? I understand things also cost money but why not assign them an amount of time like a bag of chips is 10 seconds?

I might not be able to convince you but the usage of money in our society is important because it helps the economy of every country grow. Without a medium of exchange(for work done), then everyone wouldn't work and it would be chaotic. You might say that we can use goods to pay for jobs, but isn't it easier to exchange using fiat currency($)? Also, if people started to create their own time, who would supply the pay?
Would it be easy to create a timed currency using block chain?
It is not easy but it is possible but the pay for each job will still depend on how much the one who hire pays for it unless there would be a general consensus in minimum wage for each job.

Because money is a tool of Exchange.
The money used to buy whatever we want and we need, in the modern era as now everything requires money.
But you must remember that money is not everything, because there are some very important things that cannot be purchased with money for example happiness:)

Unfortunately a system like that would not work in an ideal world it would where everybody had a role and no matter how skilled it was everyone got the same generated by just their contributions to the system.

Could time become the same measure of exchange? to me it seems like it could and actually already is, and I could not agree more with your last part.

Money is known to be generally acceptable as medium of exchange for goods and services and therefore we use money at this time that bitcoin is not yet generally acceptable and we have to have our stored bitcoin available for use in understable form.asides this, the major reason why we work is to earn for a living.

Our time now is  not like before where we exchange our needs to a material things with same value. We are no longer in a barter system but on a progressive generation. We need money to buy all the things we need and want to buy. Money now is a medium of our exchange, that's why we're using it.

many of you saying we need money, I don`t need money, I need food water and shelter, Sure I could use a system to trade easier, but why trade real worth for monopoly money, I consider monopoly money any money created that is not distributed equally. Seems we need a country to start self sustaining societys then we would not even need a trading system. What could you want if you already have everything?

Money is very essential to us in living, without money nowadays, we can't survive. Money is use to buy our necessities such as our basic needs, number one was Food, money is used to buy something to eat for us to survive. Money is used to make shelter for us. Money is used to buy our clothes to wear. Money is very important to us specially on a modernized society. There still place where the y can survive without money such as tribes in the mountanous place, however is some urgency time, they still need money.

because money is the identity of a country, other than as a tool to transact. maybe you are thinking, why not get paid using gold, or diamond? because both are assets that are subject to change. so it would be better if using the money.

no I am thinking exchanging time for time, using resources as your money supply is not to smart as your country could use those resources look at the penny it cost more to make then its even worth we had to revoke them in Canada

We need money because more than half of the population on the planet live without electricity or mobile, they don't have access to any electrical gadget nor education.
If cryptocurrencies are implemented they will be casted out of the situation and the daily things won't be able to function well there will be Chaos everywhere and no one would be able to control it.
Money is essential until and unless everyone's educated then only we can think of taking such a big step.

Also all other species function well without money because they don't have consciousness and capacity to think like us humans that's a whole different story

If you are talking about cryptocurrencies, it is  built to defy  inflation and the effect of your suggestion would be contrast to the principle of cryptocurrencies. I also point out that your suggestion wouldn't be effective because it does not include factors like increasing population.

Wow that is something out of the box thinking. I am not sure whether we can reward the time itself to anyone over the blockchain but I do know one thing that its not possible to live without currencies out here. The method of trading things has started since long time ago, it could even date to dark ages where people used to trade food. Later on it changed to valuable goods and then slowly currencies got started. May be this is impossible to overcome now as it is deep routed into the humans now.

there would be no inflation, people would create "money" at a fixed rate (if not working)

Imagine how many people would not have kids if they got payed for it?
population could be solved by the general public agreeing that you can only have two kids and if you have more you get taxed, I don`t plan on having kids so anyone could have my two kid tokens or I could sell them for more time.

when they die, the system could delete the dollars that person made during there duration here as they got fed back into the system, like Currency that spoils kind of like fruit.

the average person works for another mans living and scrapes by

back in the day how many hours did you have to work? go out fish, fuck up a deer, get some wood, takes a few hours a week to be prepared for a month, why are we working 8 hours a week 300+ days a year just for a bit of food and shelter?

if I doubled your money, for "our" money, and it had equal worth and was equally distributed, would you use it?

once you stop trying to earn money you can start to obtain value and the later you can take later with you

We use money to get everything we want and need. Money = exchange.

but could time = exchange? when you get paid you get paid for 80 hours every two weeks, why not just pay you 80 hours and not exchange it into money? the money being 80 hours instead

What do you mean by "We are no longer in a barter system but on a progressive generation?"

instead that like that the whole point of money? to like barter easier?

and yes I agree money is now a medium of exchange, could time be tho? like time notes instead of debt notes? seems pretty progressive

Physical money is still a very big factor when it comes to the economy. This barrier had not been yet broken, but the first steps were taken, the credit cards.

But everyone values time? and would be generally acceptable right? you could still work to earn more time notes no? instead of debt notes? so time could become a medium of exchange technically already is right? just needs to be measured and put onto a card, most employers already pack people for 80 hours of work every two weeks, why not pay them 80 hours of time?

I will explain it simply.Do you know money has a purpose? Not just because it is a tool for buying or paying. If we dont use money do you think we can have a peaceful nation? For me its a no.Why?Its because simple if we dont use money all of us will act as superior.Theres no rule, law or any regulations because sadly money can control our life cycle.Like through money theres a balance.

I think money still has an important role in the world of economics like trade and other transactions. For some people who live far away from the modern world, money is still very necessary because they certainly will not understand other currencies other than money. Some transactions that are still very traditional such as traditional markets are located in the village or away from the city mostly still use the money. So maybe slowly, the money will be replaced by other currencies like digital money or cryptocurrency.

I feel there is no exemption to the rule of money when it comes to goods and services requirement, because that is just how all economies of life are based upon as the medium. But I believe time itself is the real money. Ability to purposefully utilize your time on business matters and not frivolities may determine the amount of money that would come as your reward. But we can not unfortunately reward time better than money. I feel, we should be master of our self in time management and ensure we reward time spent for us in any services based on the factor surrounding the labor other than the production face value alone.

Money is used to survive in our real world. We used it to trade for our needs, services and sometimes convenience. If only we have every resource that we need, I think that is the time that we don’t need money.
But I think that would be impossible. People before used to trade a commodity to different commodities which later on evolved to money trade to a goods. Time Currency is a new idea. Literally, we have limited time here in the world. What happened if we have too much debt(Time) and we can’t pay with our own lifetime? Will that mean, that my debt will be paid by my children?
Unlike with the current system (either crypto or fiat) that there are still a lot of ways to solve that.

In every human history, we all know that they have using a raw materials to trade for either foods or items e.g. chicken, goat, bread etc, and then someone created a coins instead of bringing livestock to trade for a food or an item. Therefore, people value money for either food and items and not just the time.

In this new generation we will see the new slaves in the history and those people who works for others to get some money for their foods and shelter.

instead of converting the time into money, why not just use the time itself? and give values to objects with time
the employer just like today can set your rate and you literally can be paid in time instead of money, the time is the money

What is the difference if I get paid 10$ and you get paid 15$, or I get paid 1 hour and you get paid 1 hour and 30 minutes?  employers give different rates to different people for different jobs or even the same job, it comes out of the employers time bank.
